The T-350 kicksown cable connection on a '71 or 72 T-350 equipped A-body will be on the gas pedal ROD. Have sold a few such detent cables & pedal asaemblies over the last few years, last two have gone to Cutlass builders.

Other than the physical bolt-on fit, is there anything internal that would keep the 66 intake from working on my 71? All intake ports would line up etc?
Also, will an Edelbrock carb work without an adapter? |

The edelbrocks are based of the Carter afbs, so in theory it should. There may be a variance with the throttle bore size…I’m not sure.
The detent cable for the trans goes from pedal/firewall to the trans. You may be able to cobble together an aftermarket throttle cable bracket to work, if nothing factory can be sourced/fitted. Been a long, long time since I gandered at a thm350 throttle pedal… As for intakes….arent the later ones 10 bolts while early ones 12?

By earlier do you mean 64 and down? I think my downshift cable is on the carb, will have to check again

A 1965 and up intake will not work on a 65 and down head.

Ok, update got a 70 GTO intake manifold now I'm just trying to decide which carb to use
If I use the 66 AFB carb (the free one) can I use a 66 GTO pump to carb line, since the input is on the side? I know I will need a spacer, but will that metal line work? |

You have a Quadrajet intake now so why wouldn’t you use a Quadrajet ?
If you want to use the AFB carb then you should be using the ‘66 Bonneville intake you mentioned in your first post.

Don't have one yet, this is what I have right now. Can I use the 66 fuel line?

Use the 66 fuel line with which carb?
With a Q-jet, no. A AFB gets fed from the side and a Q-jet on its front.

Did the factory 66 use a metal line? The guy who gave me the AFB said it had a rubber line from the factory (??)

Got the 66 intake, it has a metal tube that was attached to the air horn, looks like it's permanently mounted to the intake underneath. What was this used for?

Air horn? On an intake manifold?
Photos? |

IIRC the TH350 detent cable in a 1971 LeMans attaches to the accelerator pedal?
As for the AFB intake/carb i´m with B-man, no problems. The 1970 4 barrel intake needs a Quadrajet, don´t mess with an AFB on adapter on this intake . |

Pic of tube in question
It's the metal tube coming from the side with the small rubber piece attached. Was attached to the top of the carb in the air horn area |

Those are heat riser tubes to warm up both the carb and heat the choke up so that it opens.
Here’s a not so good photo of your manifold and carb set up and a better and clearer drawing of the same set up for a 2 BBl carb.

Thx Steve25, is there some way to remove it? Looks like it is mounted somewhere underneath

That tube is the cold-air inlet side of the hot-air choke system. Filtered air is drawn down that tube, heated by the exhaust crossover passage in the manifold, and then pulled into the hot-air choke to warm the choke coil. There's a metered vacuum leak in the choke housing that causes the air movement.
Works great until the tube in the exhaust crossover part of the manifold perforates from rust. Then exhaust gas is drawn into the choke housing, which carbons-up the whole works and can promote corrosion. The hot-side of the tubing can be attached to the choke housing with a special, high-temperature silicone hose, or be screwed-on with a tube nut and flare. I've got a couple photos of the entire tube system, including one removed from a manifold--attached. First photo has an unfortunate shadow that makes it look like there's a double-loop of tubing sticking out of the manifold. |

You can use it but it's not better than a cast iron Q-Jet intake.

Now that you know what it is and what it does, do you still want to remove it and why
