Default Trans am Better shaker solution?

I was just wondering if anyone has come up with a better solution to remove and install the shaker quicker and easier than ring that tights around drop base and shaker with the long bolt and nut? I do take it off quite a bit to mess with the throttle body adjustments as I’m sure carb guys do as well. I figured someone came with something? Just figured I’d ask! Thanks

Battery powered impact with 3/8 square adapter and socket works pretty damn quick - and is useful for other tasks.

Maybe get a standard fullsize lid for it if you are making a few tuning runs, only saves half the time by leaving shaker off.

My first thought was something like a toolbox latch, many modern air cleaners use something similar. But how would you adapt it to a bolt? Bikes have all sorts of quick release thingies, but they don't have much travel. Some sort of combination of the two? Dunno. Thinking out loud.

I just make sure it is well lubed and only finger tight. I can spin it from the threads end enough to giggle it off the base.

All great thoughts! Exactly the ideas I was looking for…..something like that latch was where my mind was going to also……first thing I gotta do to use the impact also is switch the bolt from a dam Phillips head

Same - seems like I always had mine on and off enough that I could always do it by hand.

Mine is a hex head/slot. They do get a little rusty so some rust remover can help. the ring is stainless not sure why they did not spec a stainless bolt and square nut.

Get a nut driver, how often do you need to remove it

I carry a 5/16 nut driver in the console.

I leave mine loose only because I'm lazy...lol

It's a b*tch to tighten it on there straight and loosen it off...if there is a better solution I'm all for it!

I use a wing nut to help a bit, but not a solution. For me though, the pain is re-aligning the shaker and base to center the ring.

I had that stupid ring thing and ditched it …..I use 70-72 setup using wing nuts I bought the parts used and welded them to the air cleaner base pic #1 (mounting tabs ) and then to the shaker base ring pic #2 ( attaching studs. ) I got them from a member here who had a damaged shaker setup so he cut them off for me….

Yeah the simplest route is to switch to hex head and use an impact driver. Buy a 10 pack of the hex heads because they’ll wear out eventually.

I too would like a more elegant solution though.

I took my screw off my 74 when new and put a 'thumb' screw in it. Made it easier.

You must have a bad ring.

I can hand screw the bolt until loose and pop the ring off in about 30 seconds. The ring stays on the scoop.

Having owned my TA for a few months longer than Skip....
It's a little bit of a nuisance to deal with the ring. I have a routine, tat I came up with, likely before Skip took possession of his TA...

Removal is easy, nutdriver gets it done.
When installing, the most important thing is to make sure that the ring is seated on the shaker AND the air filter housing!!! Once those are aligned, just slowly tightening the clamp bolt, while making sure the ring is staying aligned, is not difficult.
You will need to walk to each side of the car to "feel" around the perimeter of the ring to make sure it is where you want it to be.
Not a long winded deal.

The ring can get damaged if it is not aligned before tightening. I messed mine up a couple of times. Before I figured out a procedure to get the installation correct.

One thing I have noticed...the alignment of the center rib (different from the 70-76 non rib scoops).
The rib seems to seldom align with the hood rib, AND it aligns differently with the hood rib. Regardless of how you jiggle the scoop alignment. Yes. My motor mounts are good....

Yep I ordered mine about 1 year after yours and darn it missed the W72 and an auto by a month or so!. But I bet carb changes, jet changes, and motor changes I've had mine off more Also having minimal amount of the rubber seal between the scoop and base helps to jiggle it off..
