Question sail panel

I need to find/make a replacement for the fiber/cardboard backing that goes between the fabric and the metal panel of a sail panel in my 67 GTO. The person who replaced the fabric left it out---probably due to deterioration. But now the panel won't stay in place with the push-in clips because the unit is too thin without the backing. Any suggestions? I don't want to buy a whole new panel if I don't have to. TIA for suggestions.

I would check your local upholstery shop. They made new sail panels for my buddies car because his were missing when he bought the car. They looked like a heavy cardboard.
