Looking at the rust I can see... I can only imagine what's out of sight.

The rust does look too bad to fix, but if the drivetrain is original there's some difficult parts to find. Just wondering what the consensus opinion is on a re-body.

Is it uncool to buy a car like this and do a body swap with a 70 Lemans Convert?

This car sold for $6350... that's stupid. A California (probably 100% rust free) 81 Trans AM 4-speed for $6350. My wife would have killed me if I buy another car now, but damn I thought seriously about it. Someone got a killer deal IMO.

69 Lemans with the GTO tribute. Located in Pennsylvania and starting at $5K with a rebuilt engine. Sounds like the guy is just tired of working on it. Gotta be some money in the engine and other parts.

Here's a 79 T/A with a 4-speed. 51K original miles with a numbers matching drivetrain. Super cool colors with a Nocturne blue with black interior. I love the Nocturne blue and the black int looks better than the blue IMO. No Reserve located in Ohio currently sitting at $4K.

Our 4-Wheelin' 69 is back with a $6500 Buy-It-Now. It's funky for sure... and well worth the BIN price IMO. I would love to drive this thing to work. Located in Florida.

Envision it in White/Blue with big knobby 4X4 tires without that stupid center section "blank" in there. Someone put some serious time in this Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang, but for some reason I love it.

Maybe if you stand it up vertically it transforms into an oriental looking robot!

I would have to agree with you on this one - well worth the BIN!

I don't typically point out reserve auctions, but this one is different. 71 Firebird Esprit Trans Am clone that claims it's a low reserve. Has the blue paint and white stripes. The engine sounds ok, but could use some E heads. Interior isn't finished (though it's started). Overall it's not too far from being done, with the plus that the exterior paint looks good. Currently $5.1K.

Here's an interesting one. A 1978 Macho Trans AM 4-speed. Reserve undisclosed sitting at $2K. I lived in Phoenix AZ back in 1979 an remember seeing these cars driving around town fairly often. Really rare and funky, if they were fast like the Yenko cars they would be worth more, but they were pretty cool.

Quote:
As part of the mechanical upgrades, the carburetor was dialed in with jet and metering-rod changes and other adjustments; the distributor was blueprinted and recurved for 32-36 degrees total timing all in by 2,500 rpm; the Shaker was opened up; and Hooker headers, twin pipes with a crossover, and dual cats were installed. DKM claimed more than a 50-horse boost with these mods. To improve handling, the front springs were retempered for a 1.5-inch lower ride height, rubber sway bar bushings were swapped for urethane ones, Koni shocks were bolted in, and even the alignment was revised (+4 degrees caster, 0 degrees camber, 1/8-inch toe-in).

To add the Macho look, graphics were painted on and outlined with tape stripes. Macho decals and numbers followed. Mecham Pontiac was charged $1,295.10 by DKM to add the base package, according to a DKM invoice. To the customer, the price was about $2,000 on average depending upon options, and could go much higher with extra-cost items such as Corvette four-wheel discs, a fiberglass hood, and an H-O Turbo.

The blue T/A sold for $18.1K. That's a lot of money, but this car should have fetched more. Someone got a killer deal.

Update... the car is now listed at $38K with a reserve. Scam?

Good catch. I thought they were the same car. That car was a steal at $18.1K.

Interesting 1999 Firebird Firehawk Trans AM pace car with 200 miles on it. What I find the most interesting is the $33.7K investment almost 20 years ago. Asking $44.3K OBO. A poor investment, but a cool car. Storage for 20 years is cheap on this one. For a 4th Gen this seems to be about as good as it gets... cept for a stick.

Says it has the SLP rear in the description but it doesn't show up on the sticker.

Here's a 69 Firebird with a 400 hood in Nevada. Only 4 pics (none of the interior or engine) and very little verbiage, but he does say part of the floor is out, which may indicate rust. Nevada cars typically don't have rust, which would make this one more attractive if the quarters were solid. Also has the arrow on the bumper which is something people don't normally add when adding a 400 hood, so it could be a real 400. Have to ask questions about the drivetrain and options, but it could be a diamond. NR starting at $8K.
