Default Tom Langdons Hole Shot 6 Engine Pictures

Well I was asked about 5 years ago to mock up the engine on a stand and take some pictures. I finally got around to it. Because most of the engine (Less the Tri Power intake) are going on semi permanent loan to a good friend that whats to build a twin Turbo Race Motor and realises that that will take longer than this August to assemble & tune to put in the 57 Canadian Pontiac he recently bought. The Hole Shot 6 engine will be used to get the car sorted out and on the track for Norwalk next year.
The Engine is not as it was last raced in the Hole Shot 6, but as it was run on the street in Toms Bread Truck he used for his Engine Buisness Stovebolt Performance. It has less Cam, and the Tri Power runners are shortened my about half, the log Manifold actually wrapped over the top of the cam cover and the carbs and log manifold were on the passenger side of the engine when it was run in the race car. Also the Intake and Carbs were not water Heated as they are on the street version.
Notice the Custom HEI Dist. And the Upper end Oiling system taken directly off the Oil Pump outlet thru a Pressure regulator. The Internal oil passage is Blocked off. The engine is a 69 250 with a ZD code on the Block, Small Harmonic Balancer. Polished Cam Cover & 66 Belt Cover.

Default Header

Now with the just Header, it is a 6 into 1 Try Y header, I never did receive the #1 Tube extension as Tom never did find it. Notice the PVC Extension Tube to Clear Header Tubes. I have seen this on Some 68/69 Sprint Engines Also

Default Intake

The Street Version of the Engine uses a Home Made Tri-Power with three 2bbl Holley Carbs that are Sequential each with a Primary and Secondary. Both the Intake and the Carbs are Water heated with engine coolant tapped off from the Thermostat Housing.
Some may not know the the 69 OHC-6 engines use a different Thermostat Bypass system than the 66-68 engines. They do not normally have the Bypass Block between the cam cover and the Thermostat housing. This engine uses a modified Block with an enlarged 1.4" Coolant tap. The Coolant goes first to the front of the log Intake, runs down its length, then exits and goes to manifold that feeds all 3 carbs, rear to front, then tees into the heater core return Hose.

That is so worthy of the wild pipes thread on the HAMB. Very cool!!! Any idea of the power it made?

Unfortunatly not in its street configuration. When the engine was in the Hole Shot 6 I am told it ran around 9.8 seconds. I estimate the as raced weight to be around 1800 lbs with fuel and driver. that would put the HP at around 380 net HP, or 450 gross HP give or take.

But it had more cam (it has a stock "H" cam in it now) Longer intake runners, and Fuel injection to get it into the high 9's.
I would love to know what it ran in its current condition, but I never had the time or $$ to devote to rebuilding it just to find out. When I got the engine it had been out of the truck for 5 plus years, never turned over, just sat under his bench. I turned the engine over by hand every 6 months or so for the next 20 plus years. I never could decide what type of car I wanted to put it in. I was thinking a 41-50 4-door Pontiac Streamliner. But never found the time to really look for a good body. It takes a Tall hood to clear that Tri-Power intake. Otherwise it sits in the drivers sight Line.

The 57 Canadian Pontiac may be a good Homefor it.

I think I just Sold my Firbird, minus the Stroker OHC-6 & T5. The tri power intake may go on the next version of my stroker, just need to find a chassis with enough hoodline to clear it.

That's a fantastic original Anglia, which I would love to drive everywhere. Although I am also a fan of drag cars with Anglia bodies, I hope nobody ever chops this one up.

That's a very cool project engine and I would love to see it back in an Anglia racing again. Agree though, the one flagged above is just too nice to cut up and make into a race car. My very first car was an OHC Sprint in a 68 Firebird, 3 speed stick. A wonderful engine. I was too young and dumb to fully appreciate it.

Neat pipings. My 69 SPRINT Bird included the Clifford Headers which i painted White.

The HEI graft was worth every bit in performance with RPM and weather.

The intake runners look neat, yet my Iron 4BBL intake sure seemed to breath just fine despite the simple looking layout. Original owner wanted the Weber setup but never happened.

9.8 seconds is an impressive aheivement with our little cammer. I would love to have seen and heard that thing going down the track.
