Default 64 tri power in a 66

I have a 66 GTO 4sp that has no motor. I found a 66 389 with 64 heads and tri power. I'd really like to use it. Things I'm going to have to address radiator, throttle linkage etc. Or should I look for a 66 set up?

Are you saying they are #64 heads or 1964 heads? If 1964 heads and 1964 tripower your kind of locked in.You can get a thermostat housing that will fix a radiator issue. Not sure what the issue is with the throttle linkage.Tom

64 heads and tri power. I could have worded better is there a difference in the throttle cable on a 66? Also the radiator ,comes with it was wondering if it would fit my 66.
Thanks

There are plenty of Tri-Power setups out there.

Do a little more looking around and find the proper ‘66 setup.

The only reason you might want to consider buying that ‘66 engine with the ‘64 heads and Tri-Power would be if the ‘66 block is a correct coded block that matches your car as originally equipped. If the block is correct you could always sell the heads and Tri-Power and purchase the correct ‘66 parts later.

All ‘64 -‘67 radiators will fit your ‘66, provided that the core height matches your core support. There are two different cores (measured between the upper and lower tanks), 15.5” and 17.5”.

I suggest using the end carbs on your '64 setup to put on a '66 manifold. The end carbs from '64-'66 are identical. You can trade your '64 center carb for the larger '66 carb. By doing this, you'll retain the correct '66 Tripower, both for originality and appearance, and avoid changing the radiator and cylinder heads.

Find a '66 Tripower intake, either OEM or the repro aluminum version (which looks exactly like the cast iron version if you paint it engine color). You can get a '66 waterneck to avoid radiator change ( about $35), get a correct '66 throttle cable bracket (about $35), use the correct '66 choke coil and rod (about $40). The throttle cable now on your car will work with the Tripower setup.

I would be willing to trade your '64 center carb for a larger '66 carb. I have several '66 Tripower intakes, both cast iron and aluminum that we could negotiate either a trade or purchase with your '64 intake.

PM me if you want to go this way.

Just a few thoughts for you to consider before bastardizing your '66 with '64 parts. There's always a PITA guy who looks under your hood and has comments about what is "correct!"
