I have a collapsible spare with the tank (the carboard label is in poor shape though);
I am not sure what it came from - I got it with parts from a guy who parted out mostly Firebirds (but some Camaros too) in the 1980's.

The one I have does NOT have that tread pattern;
Mine is an RF coded wheel with a M1/9 (so presumably a 1980 wheel), and it's a G78-15

Is there a resource which lists wheel codes ect for these types of wheels (and tires)?

Will look at the stamped codes & date on my 80's original collapsible space saver. As I can pullout other collapsible spacesavers, will do the same.

Have a late '81 dated '76-81 Pontiac Master Parts Book, can ck what it notes late tonight.
A caveot, & something I learned over 30 years ago, one can't trust the Master Parts Books on wheel codes. Too many superceded codes & combined "usages".

thanks, but I didn't even consider looking for this in an MPC - I too have MPC's;
My 77-81 catalog has a print date of August 1985.

As you said....he let me poke around a bit and I found the original collapsible spare with original compressed air canister in his garage...donut turned out to be dated '83

A 15" spare was required for vehicles with rear disc brake option.

/\ which version?
“donut”, space saver (collapsible), or full sized?

My 1979 Monte Carlo came with the "donut" spare, a T155/90R16 and my 1981 Bonneville had a T165/90R16 donut as I recall.

My reply was about your 15" collapsible space saver. They were previously 14" but wouldn't fit rear discs.

that rings a bell!

I am pretty sure my 1980 Monte Carlo also had a "donut" spare - it fit in the side trunk well(!)

'79 & '80 T/A's, at least VN production through the late Spring of '80 production used the collapsible space saver. Have no first hand info on very late built '80 models.

In the late Spring of '80, my Dads cousins son showed up at my folks place in a fresh off the lot black '80 T/A, 15x7 snowflake car. Can remember taking a ride in it, then we took a ride in my SE turbo. Few years later I put a power trunk release his '80 & it still had its collapsible space saver. All of the original '81 T/A's & Formulas I dealt with in the early '80's had the larger diam "donut" space saver. The majority of those '81's had WS6.

Of note with the 81's, within a year or two of new, a couple of my '81 owner friends began buying expensive stereo systems. Most common were top end Kenwood f/e units along with 801 & 901 amps. Can remember it like yesterday, once one one starts mounting two of those amps up against the rear seat divider, trunk space began to become an issue in a Fisher top car. During that time frame, for one '81 Turbo T/A, I picked up a collapsible space saver at local late model GM yard so an amp could be mounted in front of the spare.

You're correct! There was quite a bit of room in the trunk with that vertical spare. Of course though the trunk in my 2-dr Bonneville was big enough I was able to put both doors of my 70 Esprit in it and close the lid.
