this is the only description i could give this sound coming from my rear end.
i have a 308 12 bolt limited slip out of a 68 442 in my lemans, and this has been going on for the past 2 weeks.
the rhythm gets faster with the speed, and sometimes it's loud!
then all of a sudden for about ten or fifteen seconds,it stops.
are my gears toast,or something else?

Better pull the cover off and check it out or get signed up with triple A soon, cuz if you keep driving it, your likely going to need a tow!

If you can provoke this noise by going into reverse...stop driving and start peeking inside.

Otherwise it's quit simple to pull the axles and inspect the wheel bearings. Doesn't hurt to inspect what you bought.

it might not hurt to check the rear u-joint also. i'd for sure check the bearings in the rear end especially the pinion bearings. mike
