Default Door plunger switches

Random thoughts.

Were the door courtesy light switches installed prior to paint so painted over?

The 2 types were 9662504 (LH-side 2 terminal) and 9662505 (RH-side 1 terminal), as well as any other number revisions.

Even in original Delco packaging they changed appearance over the years, and finish, different suppliers and simple upgrades, and then the 1980's version that superseded them, moreso the aftermarket brands. Depending on batch and era produced as a spare they can be in silver or gold plating, or bare brass etc. Anyone recall or have an original? I replaced mine 20 years ago, still have them and are dull grey, hard to tell, stamped letters in plunger ends. Assume original to car but anything goes.

Replacement versions, did the production versions ever feature the nylon cap or the sealing washer?

what year? No 70-73 has the nylon OR the washers. I do like the rubber on the newer replacements to stop the door from damaging the a piller ( slight dents).
Also in 70 some Birds had 2 switches each side.....
They did NOT go through the DIP tank, No electrical went through. AS these were originally a Sub assembly they got picked and installed WITH their respective Pig tails already on them. ( installer plugged back in ones with 2 wires most likely, after tightened)

Yes, I don't recall seeing the switches ever painted back in the day. It really jumps out at me when I see them body color on a REpainted car.

Thanks, I'm talking any years. If not painted than even more important to locate a set that has a similar finish then, whatever it was.

Only slightly less awful than being painted is using a reproduction that has different colour plating or components to stock, if we know what that was. Or even changed over the life of the 2nd gen production. My original set, not fitted but believe to be genuine units look little like any of the reproduction units. It has the 80's style at present with the nylon caps. They were sold as the direct replacements at the time, work fine, but don't look right. Even when not sure what right was!
