Going forward
Hi all,
Well, here I am with no car and I'm not updating the thread about crashing the old one because let's face it, it was a bit of a bummer. So, I'm finallly moving forward because the insurance company has given me an amount that, although arbitrary, is exactly what I signed up for. We had an agreed value based upon the appraisal that I supplied when we insured the car. 20,000.00. So I would get that, along with the taxes needed to purchase another car for a total of 22,600, minus a 500.00 deductible, for a net 22,100. That's if we let the Tempest go. If we keep the Tempest, then they want to deduct 3000.00. I talked them down from 4000.00. They've done their homework and know that someone would give them that for the car. But in keeping the Tempest, we would not get the taxes added for a new purchase. This is because we are effectively repairing the car, not replacing it. So that would be a net 16,500.00 (20,000.00-3000.00-500.00). That's a big difference. Forget the exchange rate for now. That's something that we would just have to suck it up. One important thing to consider is that the insurance company is not writing the car off. It will not have a salvage title, but will merely need to be re-certified. The vehicle history may show a collision, but that's it. So, if we kept the Tempest and got another car, we would effectively own two cars. We have our eye on a few cars and continue to receive great support here in our Pontiac community. I'll keep you posted. |

I had the same issue when my 442 was totaled. I took the money and the car, sold the car and started a new adventure in the Pontiac world.

OK Pontiac Community, here is our new baby. 1967 Lemans. There's much to do, but it seems like a good starting point. It has a good clean title. I can hardly wait to get the PHS. It's loaded with options, including:
power steering power brakes front disc brakes a/c cruise control electric windows bucket seats tilt steering column hood & trunk lights am-fm radio driver remote mirror rear air bags in springs I don't know about that last one, I'll have to see if that's the same airbag springs that we put in the Tempest. If that is a bonafied option let me know. We plan on keeping it stock, with the usual upgrades, like sway bars, boxed rear control arms, Lee steering box, etc. Unfortunately, we won't be able to get the numbers matching 326 engine unless we arrange a different shipment. But at another 2000.00 to ship it here, over the border and everything, we will probably skip it. The car presently has a "good running" 400 in it. We'll see. So I'm fairly happy that we were able to get it. The Tempest will remain in storage and I've already started to source parts for it as well. It still has a good title so we actually own two cars now. |

I see a cruise control stalk, if the rest is still there...

Wow, factory AC and cruise. It seems those would be rare options in 67. Congratulations on the "replacement car", and good luck with it.

You're right. It's just the stalk right now. The original cruise control was poprietary to the original 2 barrel carb and I will receive all of the parts. He also has a bunch of other parts and I probably can't get them all, unfortunately because they might not fit in the car. I'd sure hate to miss out on a mint A/C core support or a fender.

Man, for a 67 of any make, that’s a bunch of options!!!
Having the original 326 wouldn’t worry me much. Maybe you morph the 400 in it to appear as an original 67 version of a 400, that would be my goal. A good running (stock) 400 is an awesome engine!!! Does it still have the original 2 speed trans? Congrats on finding this jewel!!!

66sprint6...It appears that the LeMans is missing the "gills" on the passenger side. Is that the case or is it an optical delusion? If so I believe I have some in the barn.

That's close by. This is the driest place I've ever lived so you should have a really rust-free car. Looks great!

Never seen any with Disc Brake callouts on an "A-Body" car But have seen special "disc brake" hubcaps on 67 and 68 Fullsize cars. But they were totally different looking hubcaps than those. Please share some pics of them when car arrives. Best wishes for smooth and easy transport |

Here's a pic. I've never seen these on a LeMans and was thinking that the dealer pinched them from a 'Bird. Either way, he said that's how he got the car and he didn't think that it was unusual.

I beilieve that you are correct. If it shows up without them, then I'll reach out. Larry told me that there's a crapload of parts coming with the car. I can hardly wait to see what they are. Hopefully it won't upset the truck driver, because I've heard of them demanding more money for a car loaded with parts. Initially, Larry asked what to do with the original engine. I figured to get the original intake and carb, etc, to go with the factory cruise control. But today he told me that he took the heads off and put the whole engine in the trunk! So I'll get the numbers matching engine. Hopefully that doesn't make the ass end drag to the point that he can't load it. Maybe the air bags in the springs are still good and will help to keep it level.

congrats!
Maybe ypu have the option to get the numbers engine at a later date; Say after the border is opened, and you can drive a truck down to pick it up in person. Is it a 326HO or just 326-2bbl?
