81 Trans Am rear axle and other
So not new to forum but new to 2nd gen F bodies so couple questions. Got a 81 that has the 1970 Camaro 12 bolt rear and need measurement from left axle flange (outboard) to center of mount on axle tube from an original rear so I can undo what someone did so I can mount the rubber flex hose to a "stock appearing" location. Width of bracket that is welded to axle tube would help also
Second question, was going to bolt the motor mounts to sub frame before I put the control arms back on after painting all parts and .there is a lot of wiggle room on the mounts so do you leave them loose untill motor is in or just eyeball them to "should be good" ? 72 400 motor and mounts appear correct.Motor won't be ready to go in for awhile Thanks in advance, Leo

Leo the 70 12 bolts use a different brake line flex line that has a bracket that bolts to the rear cover. I fabed a bracket similar to the later models and welded to the 12 bolt on my 79 Camaro to use late hoses. You could probably convert to early hoses if you wanted. I can measure the bracket size and location if you need that to convert it to late model.

That is exactly what I want to do,,eliminate hose at cover and move it to axle tube and use the late hose and lines. Measurement would be awesome.
Thanks Skip Fix

There is a slight difference in the location for drum vs 4 wheel discs. There is actually an additional small bracket for the 4WD that bolts to the drum bracket. I can post pictures later tonight of the 12 bolt and then tomorrow get measurements for you

Here are the pictures. Just a piece of flat iron a hole with a nut tacked underneath.

On my stock drum 78 10 bolt center of bracket is 2 3/8" from the cast iron pumpkin where the axle tubes go in. 16 7/8" from the backing plate.
