Hi all,

I am in the process of test-fitting the trunk lid on my '66 GTO. Today I installed the trunk lid torsion rods, and I have a question about how the trunk opens and closes.

First, a bit of backstory... Before I took the car apart, when the trunk lid was opened fully, it would hit a point of resistance almost right away when pulling it down to close. If you kept pulling, something would "pop" and the trunk lid would then close as you might expect. Still, it never seemed right to me. Nobody else's trunk lids seem to do that.

Fast forward to today... I have reinstalled the torsion rods, and now the trunk lid no longer does the popping thing when closing from fully open (excellent!), but it does increase in resistance when it's almost fully closed. Is this normal? Is it just to help the lid release when you open it with the key? Just want to make sure something else isn't going on.

That seems odd...did you change the position of the torsion rods? I haven't removed mine yet, I'm not sure how.

I put them both back into the middle notch where they were before.

Sounds like one wasn't fully seated and each time it was lifted the rod will snap into place.
I have mine set now so If I use my key and/or the vacuum release my deck with "Pop" up to approx 12"
So when closing the lid the resistance starts at about the 12" point, which I feel is good/normal range if there was/is such a thing?

Yeah, that's where mine seems to stop, too. Hoping it's just a feature, rather than a bug to sort.

Anyone else have some feedback on this? Do your trunk lids hit a wall of resistance when pushing down from about 10-12" from fully closed as shown in the video?

UPDATE: Figured out what was going on. Turns out one of the torsion rods had slipped out of position during installation and was causing some binding. Popped it into the correct spot and the lid now articulates evenly throughout the full range.
