Someone here mentioned that so before I put it in I took a small bulb and stuck it inside the bottom and checked for cracks. Appreciate your input.

I've noticed a strange phenomena .... since I basically now have more time off than I have ever had in my entire working life ... I keep forgetting what day it is.

I checked the mailbox twice today .. on Easter Sunday.

I can only assume retirement is a wonderful thing.

Just about finished with helping a buddy build a new staircase. Started with crappy looking, carpeted stairs with a knee-wall and "basement-stair" handrails. Hard to believe they build crap like that in newer homes. He wanted a good looking staircase with newel posts, handrails and ballusters and asked me to help him out. I did the plan, materials list, pre-stained and varnished all the wood parts and did the measure and cut. My buddy did the demo, drywall and nailing.

We cut down the knee walls, patched the walls and removed everything but the stringers. I wanted to leave the existing treads and go with "retreads" (manufactured tread and riser that goes over the existing treads but he wanted new, solid oak treads that didn't squeak. That was actually a good call. We installed new apron boards on the sides, treads, prefinished white risers and the railing system. The half newel posts were not available so I made up a jig and split a full newel post on a table saw (1 cut from either side) in half to match. A cove molding was installed under the lip of each stair nose and my buddy installed LED strip lighting behind it that lights each riser at night. I wasn't crazy about the white risers initially, but they do make the treads look like they are floating, especially with the lighting. I cut a sheet of prefinished melamine faced Masonite into strips to face each riser so they are easily cleaned from the inevitable scuffs.

All that's left to do are a few pieces of molding and fill the nail holes.

Nicely done. The nutserts were a great idea.

Just wrapped up another project. I did a faux antiques overhaul to a dresser I use as a printer stand and storage of all my guitar parts in my man cave/jam space. Added moldings and hardware to the drawer fronts and antiqued them to look like tool/tackle boxes, grained the cabinet and added some faux knots for fun.

Default Oh boy!

Still working full time. Asked to be cut back a day per week. The response? 2 hours of overtime. My days off have been eventful, kitchen sink was draining real slow so I cut the pipe out and cleared 20 years of grease from the line. Yummy. Then next day off it rained like crazy, flooded the basement. My shop vacuum got a workout and so did my back. I ordered one of those utility pumps from Home Depot online so all
I would have to do is pick it up. Nope. still have to wait in line for an hour to get in the store.

I'm still working. I repair school buses. I work in a shop, all by myself. Our schools have been officially closed for the rest of the year, which is great, no potential break downs!
Not sure if my job is essential, but my school has a fleet of old buses, and they need all the TLC they can get from me. I get in my pickup, by myself, drive 2-1/2 minutes to my work. Walk in an empty building, by myself, clock in. Walk 50 feet to my building, go inside, and am by myself ALL day, except when I go HOME for lunch. Clock out and go home...I guess I'm being safe.

I'm getting REALLY tired of hearing people and are SCARED to death over this deal. I believe the Good Lord, is protecting me! I have faith!!!

I ordered some carb parts, from my hero, Cliff, earlier today. He said his phone has been ringing off the wall in the last few weeks, so I guess lots of folks are working on Quadrajets!!!

Thanks!

I stain matched to his flooring but tried to keep it neutral enough that if/when he changes flooring, he can go oak, cherry, hickory or whatever. Amazing how you can apply 7 different stains and they all look pretty much the same. lol

I added a touch of weathered gray to the first one and rolled with it but had to tint the stain here and there to keep everything fairly uniform in color piece to piece.

Tore down our old deck and cut up the hot tub to pull out.

Since all the bars are closed I built my own with my 12 yr old daughter. We used the original hood from our K5 for the counter top and used a rusty hood off a 64 El Camino for the beer shelf.

Still lots to do but I’m really happy with what we have so far.

Eight years ago when getting the farm house I grew up in ready for sale (my Grandfather bought the property in 1910) I claimed the work bench that had been in the chicken coop for many years. My plan was to clean it up and use it somewhere. It sat dissembled in storage until January when I lost that storage space. rather than move it to the new storage facility, and since I now have more time, I brought it home and started cleaning it up. The top, a single piece of oak 20" x 66" x a full 3 " thick looked pretty funky from all it was exposed to but looked surprisingly good underneath. Same for the base, the front was beat-up but he back looked much better. So I flipped the top and moved the vice from front to back and rotated the base. The wood cleaned up quite well except that a couple of the legs had rotted away a couple of inches at the bottom.
Over the years in storage the nut for the vice had disappeared and of course it is a weird double pitch piece. Luckily a good friend and Pontiac guy is a machinist and he was able to cut a new one. I put casters on the legs so I can easily wheel it around in the garage.
It appears the legs and vise were factory made but the top looks to have been done separately I think the top was probably replaced at some point due to heavy use ar damage. In any case I'm pleased with the end results..
The third pic shows the wooden trucks I've been building for the grand kids.
The work bench is getting used again!!
