Default SHAKERS

1974 G.T.O. shakers worked..1973 & 74 TRANS AM did not...a lot going on inside the G.T.O. functioning unit..why no functional shaker for T/As?...you did get a $27 delete ram air credit though

Didn't pass noise level regs.

GTO didn't make as much HP so wasn't as loud?

The roumer of it was to loud was just that. It wasn't to loud it was no one wanted to spend the extra money for the emmission test to prove it was ok with it open at speed so it got dumped & the 350 had the testing done that was folded in on another test so it got a working shaker, but it was not because of noise that is a roumer that has come & gone with the proof. Got through the 74 Ram Air section posts & you will see the real reason in the info that is in those post aout the 73 Ram Air system.

...I never bought into the noise level thing..Pontiac also saved money with a non functional shaker...and I recall the 1980 Z-28 came out with a working scoop similar to the T/A...so noise had nothing to do with it, THANKS!........also in 1979 I ordered a SR shaker and air cleaner and all the parts (bushings and solenoid secure bracket were no longer available)..however the shaker flapper door had a neat fuzzy texture on the exterior side...basically a big peel and stick the shape of the door..it is my understanding from other P.Y. members is that SR door is the style used on the 1974 G.T.O. shaker

Default '74 Shaker Scoop Vacuum Line Routing

Does anyone know where the the 2 hoses connect to after they split from the 'T'? We can't seem to find any diagrams in the manuals.

Does the front one connect to the vacuum fitting in the intake runner and the back one to the vacuum tree on the back of the carb throttle plate?

If anyone has pictures, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Dennis

Per John Sawruk, the 73 A-body system did not pass because of federal drive-by noise regulations. I did not ask him about the other Pontiac systems and assume the same was true for the Shaker scoops. Must have been a close situation where the 350 Pontiac and Chevy were deemed to be OK.

Here's is a diagram, but it is a little vague on where the manifold vacuum is actually connected.

Default drive by noise

I imagine two Federal guys from the office of Drive By Noise in labcoats..the cars drive by them...along comes a 1973 Trans Am with functional scoop..the 2 men are talking and the T/A driver guns the engine and the scoop opens...just as they are talking..the one says to the other 'WHAT??!!"..the other says...'I said FAIL''..........cool diagram and interesting info on 'the other functioning T/A scoop'...thanks for posting
