Default Cast date location on the 65 421 block

Is the Cast date located on the 1965 421 block on the Distributor pad or some other location?

Thanks,

Brian

You should find the cast date on the distributor pad, and you will probably find a large cast # 157 on the back of the block behind the flywheel or flexplate. You will find the casting # 9778791 on the side of the block.

I tried to take a photo of the cast date code on my '65 421, it turned out a bit fuzzy, but here it is. It's directly behind the distributor shaft. I had to crawl in the engine compartment and stick the camera between the distributor and firewall. The yellow arrow points to it. Mine is B215. February 21st, 1965.

That is neet. 2 cars from the Northwest built withen a week of each other.
Lets get the time machine out and go back to see both cars when they were sitting on the showroom. What a site that would be.

Brian:
I'm glad to hear you found your block cast date. I'll bet you had to crawl right in there. I assume that you received a photocopy of your car's Billing History Card (IBM Punch Card).
You will see the small black rectangles that highlight where the card had holes punched in it. You must look at the first five punches from left to right. The first two represent the zone code. The second two represent the dealer. Here's my car (zone 25, dealer # 287) as an example:

0
1
2 X X
3
4
5 X
6
7 X
8 X
9

1 22234 5 6

Next, you go to the Ultimate GTO website and find the reference info page that they have compiled that deciphers the zone and dealer codes I'll try to post the link. It would be interesting to know where your 2 + 2 was built. I'll bet it was Southgate, CA like my car.

Brian: my previous post didn't work as planned. The X's I used representing the card punches got misaligned. I'll try again.

Here's an actual photo of my Billing History Card. Look in the upper lefthand corner. The number above where it says "Charge to DLR" is 25287, which is zone 25, dealer # 287. Yours may be zone 25 (Portland) or 26 (Seattle). Go to the Ultimate Pontiac GTO Picture site text topics # 18 at http://ultimategto.com/art18.htm to find the zone and dealer codes compiled by these fine GTO enthusiasts.

PHS will also give you this info if you order the laminated window sticker from them. The window sticker will come with the original dealer's name right on it!

Thanks guys I'll check the report for those codes when I get home to night! I was able to make out the invoice date on the card. It is 03-02-65. Would this be the date the car was finished and ship from the factory or does this date represent some thing else??

My Zone/dealer code was 25243. I decoded it at the site above and 25 is for Portland and 243 is for Dick Lewis Pontiac-Cadillac Inc, Plum & Union, Olympia, WA (out of business)

Thanks again for the help!
