Correct part number for the 64 389 timing cover
I have two timing covers. They both look the same. The part numbers are:
9790347 and 9773371 Which one (if either??) are correct for the 64 389 motor? I plan on using a stock balancer. Thanks, Brian |

The 1st one is for a 68, the last one is the one you need.

Well that figures ! I sent the wrong one along to the shop with the engine. Anyone need a fresh 68 timing cover? Heil-a-coiled all the bolt holes and smoothed out the pitted water passages with putty LOL
Well, sounds like I at least have the correct one . Thanks for the reply |

As I said above It Looks like i managed to send out the wrong timing cover ( Part number 9790347 1968 only) with my 1964 78X GTO engine and it came back with the assembled engine installed and all sealed up.
At this point I do not have the water pump installed and I still need to find a new balancer. From my search the 1968 only part number 9790347 takes the 8 bolt water pump, Has the Water neck hump, but it takes a larger 68 and up Balancer??? Is this Right?? Are they just talking about the ID of the balancer were it fits on the crank? because I'm running the 64 crank. So If I wanted to run a stock 64 balancer and pulleys would I need to install the correct timing cover part number 9773371? This one looks and measures the same except it has timing numbers instead of a pointer. Also, I will be installing a tripower on the 78X motor. Thanks, Brian |
