correct fly wheel???
I'm putting together a 64 389 tri power motor. I bought a used flywheel that i believe is correct but how can i tell before i send it out to be resurfaced. It has 166 teeth.
Thanks, Brian |

I may be mistaken but I thought all 64's had the block mounted starter and had the large register flywheel to crankshaft hole.

Okay, so we now know it doses not take the block mounted starter. How can i tell if the fly wheel i have is correct? It has 166 teeth on the ring gear if that helps. |

I believe all big cars in 64 used a bellhousing mounted starter and the GTOs got the block mounted starter. The reg hole is NBD,if too small bore it out and if too lg get a spacer ring. The ring gear is the rub.Tom

Jim Hands book, how to build max performance pontiacs mentions this and it is wrong, at least partially. I had a 64 Grand Prix 421 Automatic, code 38S, block mount starter. Beautiful car, black with red interior, wish I had it today.
