Post Console with Guages

My 1974 Gto is a 4 speed car but didn’t come with a console. I see that you can purchase them in the aftermarket from multiple companies. Are all cars set up from a wiring standpoint to add the console? Can someone walk me through where I should buy one and what is needed to add the console set up to my car.

Not familiar with the Console wiring on the 74's. Unlike new cars where in most cases, they have one particular wiring harness for a given vehicle and any options on a particular car just plugs in to that harness, older cars usually had different harnesses for different vehicles depending on the options. I would check with the companies that make replacement harnesses and see what the have. Some of those harnesses aren't cheap and you might find it easier and cheaper to engineer your own if possible.

Hi ScottyG,
My 74 GTO 4 spd has console gauges. What exactly are you looking for?

We’re the 74 Gtos that came with the console fitted with a different wiring harness? Or was there a pigtail that came off the harness to the console? I’m trying to keep it original or something the car could have come with originally?
Which Steering wheel did yours come with Deluxe or Custom Sport?

Rob,
Thank you. Do you by chance know where I can get a Custom Sport Steering Wheel restored or recovered?

"Rusty";
I'd guess your car has an additional small loom like second gen automatic cars do, that plugs into your existing dash loom.

Scotty;
I realize your base steering wheel might not be high on the "cool" factor, but you'll probably find that no one else on the show field has that wheel;
If that's original to your car, that's the same wheel that many 1970-1974 Pontiac's had this as the basic no-charge steering wheel, but few these days retain them.
