Bucket seat track ?
Hi all, I’m thinking of doing a front seat swap on our 65. Putting more modern seats in it. I would like to use the original mounting points in the floor for the stock bucket seats.
I know the 66-72 tracks are different but all I’ve seen mentioned is that the holes where they mount to the seat are different. Can anyone tell me if they would mount to the floor using the stock 65 mounting holes? Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? I just don’t want to go modifying the floor to get them in. My 64 came to me with a set of 66 or 67 seats in it. Whoever put them in used two of the existing mounts and drilled two new holes. So I guess they are wider overall.

You are welcome...As I remember it they must have been the same length - because the seats were bolted into the inboard factory mounts. I will look through my pictures and see if I have any of the mounting holes and seat sliders...In case my memory is faulty.

I put modern seats from a Sebring Convertible in my 64 GTO Convertible and used the original 64 mounts plus custom adaptors from the 64 mounts to the Sebring Seat mounts. I had the adaptors designed and fabricated by a top notch fab shop.
The adaptors raised the seat height by slightly over 1" in height. Tom Vaught.

Murf, you could use 1/4" flat bar stock and make brackets. But check online, I remeber seeing brackets made up for changing to different seats from other car brands. I wouldn't drill another set of holes in the floor just to install different seats.
A friend cut the mounting ends off a spare set of seat brackets he had and welded them up to a set of seat brackets for a newer set of seats he wanted to put in his Chevy. It worked out pretty well.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies! Yes, I think I will either make some sort of adapter or cannibalize some other tracks for brackets.
I’m trying to get it as low as I can. The seats are already pretty tall. I was hung up on how the convertible would look with tall seats but as we are driving it more, I think I want a little more safety. We’ll see how it goes. Thanks again! Murf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |
