There is a gentleman that had posted in one of the pontiac facebook groups about doing this.
He used the Sealed Power 2148 lifter which apparently matches the lifter bore oil feed correctly. I believe that is an LS7 lifter. He used the ford spider part 31-1000. Per his post the modifications necessary were to cut the slightly reshape the spider to fit the dimension of the lift galley so the forks are properly located. Additionally the block side portion of the forks must be ground slightly to allow them to sit flush against the top of the lifter bore.

It was the Pure Pontiac Powered Outlaws group. The information is in a post related to Johnson Hydraulic Rollers

Tony just posted the same information again - same group. He has several thousand miles on his build with the LS lifters. No issues. Jim Lehert built the engine, good to know it came from a Pontiac guy.

Not using the LS7 lifter in a Pontiac but plenty with them in LS engines. They were the "go to" lifter for the LS engine until two years ago when they started having ticking issues. These were lifters purchased from GM Hopefully it's been corrected.

Thanks, very helpful for me.
The 0.442" lobe on me cam creeps me out.. I probably need to trade roller cams, for a smaller Street Roller. |

I had a 28,000 mile C6 Z06 and it ate a LS7 lifter in the first week I owned it. After doing a lot of LS homework, I concluded no GM LS lifters are long term reliable in a performance application. I am sure some use stock truck lifters with in their 1000hp LS builds but you see many with issues as well. I ended up ordering a set of Johnson's from Paul K (Fair price and hand delivery!). The car was quiet when I sold it.
That said, our retrofit lifters have issues as well. Looking at the video @ 2:00 mins, it appears the lower part of the band is lower than the Pontiac lifter. I wonder if that is going to be a problem?

LS 7 hydraulic roller lifters
I have seen on another Pontiac site where guys are replacing their comp hydraulic roller lifters with ones from the LS7. There's also a YouTube video crediting Jim Lehart with this modification . Apparently the lifters are more cost effective, lighter than other Pontiac retrofit brands, and made in the USA
Anyone here trying them, and where there any issues? |

I think we're going to have 15 new threads about this before tomorrow. Check 3 threads down.

How is Jim doing? We had our political differences but at the end of the day I believe Jim Lehart is a good man. I kind of miss having him around!

The video stated the LS7 lifters were about half the weight. Is that true?

im sure they are lighter as they are shorter because of no link bars.Does not sound like its a retro fit deal as the block needs to be ground a little above the lifter bores.Might be a good option for new builds.Again, chevy lifters so there could be oiling hole issues?Tom

Credit given to Jim Lehart (CVMS) at start of video. I spoke with him years ago and he mentioned he was working on this but never heard it again till now.
