Default English Road Race Galaxie

Saw this over on the Chevelle site. English road course with a 63 Galaxie taking on British Cortinas and Minis.

Tanx OG, like to see some Poncho muscle in there!

That was pretty sweet to watch.

I have a 64, that thing pops up on Galaxie pages a lot. I think someone posted up a live stream the last time it was racing. I like my Galaxie, and I like the idea of a big FE, but man....if you think Pontiac is expensive, try building an FE on for size.....

I watched that live over the weekend - anything from Goodwood is well worth seeing. It should be pointed out the winner of that race was driving a 1963 Studebaker Lark Daytona.

A friend of mine has a 63 Galaxy light weight, he traded a 67 Shelby for it.

Happy memories, I had a lotus cortina in ‘69 , used it for hill climbs and auto cross , then raced a mini in ‘70.

Some fantastic "precision drifting" happening there. Fun to watch!

That was cool. clap2: Nothing like driving good 'ol American muscle.

If only there had been one more lap he'd have toasted them all.

This was the second race. Race#1 the previous day was won by Stig Blomqvist (71 years old, and a former world rally champion) in another Galaxie.

They posted another video of the full touring car race, including some in-car cameras. Cool stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOME1wR1U5o

This may have already been posted, but it relates. Dan Gurney also raced a '61 Chevy with 409 that is still around and restored. A few clips of it can be watched. The car sounds awesome. I'd pay to get to take it for a high speed spin.

If anyone likes speed and racing, you can drive a Nascar race car. I did the Richard Petty Driving Experience in Charlotte. I am not a Nascar guy, but it was a blast. You have a pace driver in front of you who keeps you in check. I got up to 130MPH and that's about all the guy would let me do - probably due to my first experience. I would accelerat on the lead man's bumper and have to back off - the cars have some power. My brother had gone before and he hit 140. You get 8 laps which goes fast. You can get a DVD of your experience as they have camera's and mike inside the car.

Key word: Holman Moody.
When they mentioned the engine going up in smoke I wonder if it was a top Oiler FE Ford.

This attached link is referring to an Australian racing legend and his 1962 4 door Impala. He says his inspiration in buying it was from reading about Dan Gurney's '61 409 Impala.

20 years ago after Norm had bought the Impala back, I went to a notorious hill climb here in Melbourne. Norm had the Impala on the starting line and it would be fair to say the general comments from spectators were not complementary. That is till he took off. The track was only a bit wider than the Impala and I was watching a 60+ year old man make that Impala dance. He had it up the hill in a blur. Never forgotten the noise of that 409 growling up the hill.

After watching the Impala, I sort of lost any interest in watching things like Lotus's and Elfin's fart around the corners.

Very cool car. There couldn't have been more than a handful of four door Impalas with the dual quad 409 and four speed, I would guess this is the only right hand drive one.
