Default PHS

I am going to look at a 65 GTO tomorrow and the owner has the original bill of sale. If the vin # on the car matches the vin on the bill of sale, is it still necessary to get a PHS on the car to confirm its a GTO. The body plate has a 5N and the colors match up to the tag and the items on the bill of sale are still retained on the car. The price of the PHS has gone up since the last time I ordered one. For next day email it is now $100.00

the trouble is that some unscrupulous people will go great lengths to "change" the pedigree of a car.
I would only worry about it if you are paying a premium on the car for what it is purported to be.

Last time I looked at the Lemans and GTO price difference, it was way more than $100.

Look at it this way, it will help you sleep at night.

I went to look at the 65 GTO yesterday. It is a survivor car with 74,000 miles. He purchased from the original owner 12 years ago. It has been off the road since the early 80s. Tripower, 4 speed, gauges, transistorized ignition (missing), tinted glass, deluxe seat belts, padded dash, power steering, lamp group, custom wheel discs, rear defogger, spare wheel cover ( still on the spare) original owners manual and original mint condition bill of sale. It appears to have never been taken apart. Original paint, (nightwatch blue) interior, (blue) drivetrain, original carbs with the original metal tags, original wiper motor with the yellow staming and date code. Basically just about every component is original. That's the good. The bad - both fenders rotted, both qts rotted, passenger door huge dent, roof was a shelf so multiple dents, some rot on the floor and floor braces. I went there with money and and had all intentions of buying the car, so I was very disappointed when I saw the body condition. To much work for me, but it would be unfortunate for this car to just sit and continue to rot. The owner is older and has not intention of restoring it any longer. I didn't think there where many survivor cars left. I don't know him but thought I would put the word out for him. He has no computer or social media skills. Jim 203-339-5590 Connecticut

Well, that’s to bad.

Awesome options on this car, but as you mentioned, way to much rust.

Did it come with white pinstripes?

Did you take any photos ?

Thanks for that news flash.

Chris.

wow that sounds like a cool car!
1965's are fast becoming one of my favorite years.
What gearing would a '65 tripower four speed car some with?
Would it depend on transmission?
Or would that combination essentially net an M21 with 3.90:1 gearing?

It does have the white original stripes. I was so bummed when I saw the car, that I only took a few motor pics which I will post later. 2 things that I noticed the vehicle had which is very rare to find and something that I have tried to buy from you. The plastic nipple to connect the washer hose by the battery and the metal clip on the driver fender to hold the washer hose. The only reason they are still on the car is because the washer hose has never been changed. I would hate to see this car just disappear into dust.

Nice pics! Thanks.

What did the cowl tag say?

Build date, plant ?

BTW, I could take 100 photos of a Survivor / Unrestored car, get back home and say, damn I wish I’d taken more photos.

Survivor cars of any make are a learning experience.

WOW, that’s the latest ‘65 I’ve ever seen.

2nd week of August. Just about the end of line for this year.

Thoughts, me, I would let it go.
Hopefully someone with the time, money and knowledge gets it and saves it.

BTW, aren’t you restoring a Black ‘65 ?

Chris.
