Default 1974 4-speed A/C on eBay

Ultra rare '74 SD T/A 4-speed with A/C on ebay starting at $81k...I'm sure they didn't make many 4-speeds with air!!

$81k for a 74 400 4sp is kinda high, considering the 74 SD's aren't getting that. Especially with the way car prices have been falling lately.

SOB, I guess I should open my eyes fully in the morning...lol. That is still a pretty high starting price with the way things are right now. Time to set up a eye exam...

This looks like the very same car we look over at Volo a couple of years ago (VIN 116260 – same interior combo and options). We had a number of questions about the car - it was built in November of 1973, well before any of the documented 4-speeds (All known 4-speeds were built after March 1974 due to issues with certification and/or supply of the BW transmissions). It also had a Trans from a 1976 Corvette as I recall. Nice car but ask a lot of questions before buying...

We decided that this car was either an automatic - A/C car that was converted to manual or it was a 400 4 speed that was updated with an SD engine. There is no way to prove it unless you have the original build sheet. Trans choice was a no charge option and therefore does not show up on the window sticker or dealer invoice from PHS.

As rwinkles stated.........ask a lot of questions before buying.

Me...I don't buy it for a minute. It is an engine swap car!

Oh yeah, that car had many things that drew red flags. Proceed with caution !

Do you guys that saw the car remember what the VIN showed for the engine?

Steve:

It was difficult to see and was painted over therefore making it unreadable. I will tell you that it had a BW trans from a 76 Corvette. rwinkles took a picture of the trans and the VIN was 16SXXXXXX. The casting code was also incorrect for a T/A. Another red flag. It did have a W8 coded block but that could have been from a wrecked SD or may have been restamped. Hard to tell.

Steve - The PHS was "X4N116260" and it was built in November 1973. The next earliest 4-speed in the registry is X4N138xxx and was built in March '74. My opinion is that it was a salvaged SD auto car with A/C that was re-bodied onto a 400 4-speed A/C car and they didn't bother to change the trans - after all you can't prove it. Hard to say how it ended up with the Vette trans. I'd love to see the VIN behind the heater box though...

I remember seeing the car advertised at Volo and called them but got no straight answer. I thought it might have been an actual 4 spd SD that someone added AC to although a good chance that one or both of the firewall VINs were lost to metal removal for the air box installation. As Dick said though, a little early for a 4spd car.

I was taken by the interior. I've seen a number of cars with the no charge option of contrasting seats but never black int with red seats. Has to be pretty rare-if it even was built that way.

That SD engine I sold, was out of a Buc Red TA with that interior.

John, I don't think I asked when I bought it, did you ever get the PHS for the car that engine came from? If so I'd buy it from you.

I don't think so.
It was a long time before PHS when I had it.

I'll look and see to make sure, though.
