Default Guy removed GTO vin plate?

I found this auction for a GTO with practically nothing left. He removed the vin plate, and shows a picture of it with the title. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pontiac-GTO-...US_Cars_Trucks

Pretty ballsy to put that up for auction. I have to wonder if the VIN matches the hidden VINs on the shell. Let's hope so.

Someone might buy it to do a vin swap with a tempest, or worse yet, a stolen GTO. Why else would he remove the plate, if he wasn't insinuating that.

This is where the fine line of legality comes in. Had that guy not cut the VIN tag from the car, it would be a legit car, legally-speaking and could be pieced back together. This way, it's a Federal offense. He should be reported.

From what I can see in one of the photos the VIN plate was removed initially by cutting a big chunk out of the door jamb. Do you think that was done that the lot could be welded into a donor car and still have the rosette rivets intact???

Except that '67 was the first year the GTO was its own model. Much more difficult to clone than a '64 or '65 when it was just an option on a Lemans.

I think the appeal on this particular '67 is that he claims it is an HO car.

2 bids, up to $1500 for basically a frame and a rear end, with misc. parts. From where I sit, it's a travesty. Why cut up a rust free GTO? Also, the removal and resale of a VIN is indeed a Federal crime, and, if I am correct, a felony. Not good.
