Float level
I am getting conflicting information. Is gas supposed to push barely weep out of the view hole or is it supposed to be half full? Half full doesn’t seem right but that’s the way the new one came out of the box

I always set it to where the fuel will slosh out if I rock the car slightly. Definitely not half way up. The preset factory level just gets you close. Individual fuel pressures, etc., affect where it needs to be set.

depends on the carb. some have a sight glass in the fuel bowl and you set the fuel level in the middle of the sight glass.
which carb do you have? |

Good point. I was assuming old school Holley.

With the car sitting in such a way to get the carb level due to manifold pitch then the fuel should be just at the bottom of the site glass.
If you were going to run at the strip then set it so that the fuel just dribbles out . Either way this should be done with the motor fully warmed up. If you come back 10 minutes later and the carb is even more heat soaked and you find the throttle blades a bit wet then back down on the fuel level by 1/16” .

Sight glass = middle *** Plug type = dribble out with plug removed while running or freshly shut off wiggle car
I like to start off low then work up shutting the engine off when adjusting then start engine to check

it looks like they are close but it seems like they are very touchy at this point. I know if they are too low it will starve but if they are a touch too high is it gonna hurt anything. Everything seems good.

It will not starve if you have a fuel system capable of supplying a HP level slightly higher than what your motor can make.
The way in the above I posted about how I adjusted my Holley’s floats was fine for a car that could run very low 10s in the 1/4 mile. A lot of you folks are just crutching an inadequacy in your fuel system .

Now two different ways to verify proper float level
semi permanent larger window or the old removable plug

Too low can cause it to run lean or out. Slightly low shouldn't cause it though. As stated, your delivery system should keep it at the level that you set. Raising, or lowering, the fuel level changes the entire mixture curve. Setting it at the correct level, proper jetting, air bleeds, etc. are essential. Also, if you set the level too high, it can cause nozzle drip. Don't overthink it. Just set it where it's supposed to be for your carb. Have you verified your fuel pressure? Also a key factor.

According to the Brawler instructions, the fuel level should be at the hallway point in the fixed sight glass. This should not be confused with some Holley Carburetors to which clear sight plugs have been installed in lieu of the screw plugs. The fuel level for the screw-in plugs (clear or brass) is the bottom edge f the hole, just barely visible when the car is rocked slightly.
You have to be off by a mile to over-richen your mixture. Check your vacuum at idle and get back to us. Make sure you connect to a manifold vacuum port (below the throttle plates or you will get an erroneous reading.

Some good information about float level here: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...-level.410957/ Provided by our resident Carbking on The H.A.M.B. Verifies what I was taught and always believed. "A good general rule is that a 1/16 inch change in fuel level is approximately equivalent to one jet "size" So it affects mixture A LOT!

Not only main jetting but when the mains start and how rich they go. Having the fuel in the middle of the sight glass puts the fuel level just over the top emulsion hole. This will quicken pullover, as the air through the top e-bleed pulls fuel with it. If you lower the fuel level to just below that e-hole, then it's drawing air. It acts like a second kill bleed. This will delay pull-over and lean the mixture after pullover, at low main flows.
