Where to Buy the Square Dash Clips??
I see they offer the rectangle version of the clips for sale. I don't see the square clips available. I only need 1 square clip for A/C dash pad. Any suggestions?
Thanks! |

Let me know if you haven't found one.
I have a few, but it may be a chore to find them Chris

I don’t think the square A/C dash version is available. At least I couldn’t find them when I was looking. Used is probably your best bet.

They weren't available back when I was looking. I got a pair from Bob Vidan and picked up a spare pair later at a junkyard.
If I'm not mistaken, I sent someone on this board one of my spares not too long ago. If I run across the other, I'll keep you in mind.

Why not thread the stud and put washers and nuts on the back side?

You guys got me so paranoid I went down to check for mine ... missing one. I think I'll slightly elongate the square hole in the dash and use the rectangular type. Looks like small equal amounts off the top and bottom of the square would allow the rectangular clips to fit. Jeez, why the heck would they use different clips for AC and non-AC. I woulda thought the underlying metal dash frame was exactly same .. but they went to the trouble of actually punching different size holes for the clips.
Actually, I should check the dash pad ... might be stuck on there. .... nope. |

Sounds like a very viable solution to me.

I found the measurements for the rectangular type in the AMK catalog ... about 1" tall by 1/2" wide ... so about 1/4" off top and bottom of the square hole should center the post/stud opening in the same place as a square one ... I think. Hopefully the depth of the part that grips the groove in the stud is the same. I can compare it to my old square one first. Heck, if they went to the trouble to make different holes and clips, the studs might be a different length too.

If I can remember to look, I think I have one or two of both types. IF I remember and IF I can find them...I'll check. As I recall, they were identical except for the length.

I was just looking for a source for the rectangular ones online ... Inline Tube doesn't appear to have them. I know AMES does ... but hesitate to spend $10 on shipping for $4 worth of clips.
If the OP can't find one ... take care of him first since this is his topic. Otherwise I'd be happy to buy whatever you have, either type. Or if I can find the rectangular ones online for reasonable shipping I'd do that too. |

I'm fairly sure I have a pair of the repopped rectangular ones that I bought before I realized that there were two types. I'll see if I can find them. If so, they're yours.

I was just looking at the photo of a rectangular clip ... the hole in the dash actually would not have to be opened up 1/4" top and bottom .. that was the dimension for the total length of the clip ... looks more like 1/8" top and bottom going by just the part that grips the dash metal. So even easier.

You're assuming the hole is in the same place in ac dash vs non ac dash

I'm installing an AC dash on an AC car ... so no problems there. All I am doing is swapping the retention clip style.

Boy, I would really like to see a picture of the clip you guys are talking about. When this thread was started, I was racking my brain & now I see its an A/C equipped thing? are these the clips that the dash pad screws secure into & are oval in a non-A/C car?

I'm a little confused now....I found one rectangular clip. Obviously original and has a coat of rust on it. I don't remember why I would have an old original of the part that is repopped.
I know that I had a pair of repops that did not work and a pair of originals I bought from someone. Couldn't remember which was which. Yet, here I am with an original in the rectangular config. and you guys are saying the the square one is for the A/C dash? Anyway, it's yours if you want it dataway. I don't know what the deal is with my local post office....open or not? Anyway, pm me an address and I'll get it there when I can.
