Timing with a Pontiac on the sauce!
Just kind of wondering what the bottle babies are running as far as timing goes with what shot...
Just fired up the 535 for the first time and gonna hit it with the fogger this weekend. HIgh ports, 56cc chamber, flat top ross pistons, 70 thou cometic.....What ya think guys? 36 jet in the fogger.......

I'd start with pulling 12 to 14. 12 is normal, but your NA timing probably isn't exact yet so 14 to be safe. Pull your plugs and read them. The key is to start safe and get more aggressive from there.
But overall your plugs will tell you exactly what the motor wants. Good luck! |

anybody who trys to give you an exact answer is a fool...like dude sez, fuel?..its just one of the variables..the kit itself plays a part, as too how the nitrous hits the cylinder..engine heat, load, and rpm play their parts..
the basics are as known..when ya get to where its good, try adding 2 more degrees at high rpm..its the midrange and low speed that kills ya..it takes time for the juice to break down.. a 36 nitrous jet should yield close to 400 hp in a nos style kit..sounds fun on a 535 with good heads.. |

As has been said, there isn't a simple answer because of all the variables.
But based on our experience with our engines, I'd expect that you'll end up around 16 - 18 degrees BTDC at that amount of nitrous in your worst cylinder. The hardest cylinder to keep alive is usually #2, so you have to tune for that unless you have individual cylinder timing. You'll probably need to jet the #2 and #1 cylinders richer too. FYI: our tuning data is based on 118 octane. You know that you have too much advance if the spark plug ground straps start turning blue or you start to roll up the piston top; where the valve relief comes close to the edge. 36 jets are serious business. Hopefully, your wiring, fuel supply, ring seal, etc. are all ready for it. Good luck...should be fun. FWIW: Eric |

well, went to the chassis dyno today. Great results. Made a touch under 700 on the motor, and with the 30 jet in the fogger it made 990. I was a little nervous to hit the 36 on the dyno. I am going to button up some small stuff this week and going to the track friday to get some seat time in the car.
I had the timing set at 16 for the 36 jet and just left it there for the 30 jet cause i was going to try it with the 30 and then step it up to the 36....but after seeing 992 on that tune up i figured i better get some seat time before i step it up. I really think that i could have tuned over 1000 with a little more timing and less fuel on the 30 jet. Motor should handle it, i built it for the big ****. Hellfire rings gapped at 34 and 36, a2000 pump, and just re wired it. I also have cylinder to cylinder timing so i should be able to tune this thing pretty well. Cant wait to leave on the juice!
