My neightbor up the block, for his birthday, got a 2004 GTO from his wife. We took pictures of his car and my '64. Thought you would like to see.
A lot of people knock the car, I went for a ride and was very impressed.

Sweet '64 for sure, John!! (And that's my '04 too - blue w/ the blue leather) It would be so nice if you'd just send me your '64 so my newborn '04 would have some company in my garage... to make her feel more secure, you know? Huh? Huh?

The 64. American made Pontiac car with an American made Pontiac engine. The 04. Australian made Holden car reengineered to pass American regulations and badged as a Pontiac with a Chev designed engine. Evolution? Maybe in the very broadest sense of the word.

I'll take a Australian built quality car with a GM Powertrain made and designed engine over a American designed, Canadian built GM Powertrain powered car anyday.
Funny, does the 05 Corvette resemble the 65 at all? Hmmmm....me saying nope.

At least the same division that started it still makes it. Where was your Cavalier made? Mexico or Ohio? If you can say quality and Cavalier in the same sentence has it suffered because it wasn't made in Australia?

Danny, again, Chevy didn't make the LS1. How many times do I have to tell you that? Or are you too ignorant to actually believe it?
Yup, the car is relabled as was the Pontiac GTO, relabled after an import. Amazing uh?
David, I have had one warranty issue with my Cavalier. It has 36K miles on it, gets 34mpg, has XM Radio and a sunroof. Cheap transportation. Sorry, but I wouldn't want any car that pontiac makes today to be called GTO. Not unless you wanted a Grand Am with FWD called a GTO. Then it would meet most of your criteria for being called a GTO but then again you would start bitching because it was FWD, could only get a Auto with it and be a V6.

Chevrolet did engineer the the small block a fact that is well known whether you choose to admit it or not. Front wheel drive GTO? You said that not me. Has Pontiac forgotten how to engineer a car from scratch or are they just waiting on a slow death like Oldsmobile?

Funny, we are talking about the LS1 V8 not a SBC. Try to keep up. I know it is difficult for you.
Here is a little bit of history of the engine.
http://www.idavette.net/hib/ls1c.html
Read it carefully.
No, i was pointing out the most of the pickle haters would rather see a FWD V6 powered PONTIAC BUILT AMERICAN car than the current GTO. No thanks. Not me.

As somebody else is prone to say, thats not a GM web site. GM thinks it is.

Hmmmm: Is the 2005 Corvette instantly recognizable as a Corvette? Most people apparantly think so. Is the 2005 "GTO" instantly recognizable as a GTO? Most people apparently think not. (BTW: Corvette went to the C2 body configuration in '63, not '65.)
