Drove 62 Catalina to the Ames Pontiac Nationals. 407 Miles round trip. 43 gallons of premium unleaded fuel consumed. Yiikes! Lots of smiles vs miles per gallon. Bathtub intake and 2 750 CFM AFB's swilling away. Looked at some spark plugs when I got home. Engine seems happy and plugs looked very good.
One pic has Arnie Beswick and Dimitrie Toth, (father of the bathtub) in one pic.

Nothing today, too busy this week. I hope to pull the engine out of the ‘63 as it’s just the motor mount bolts and the torque tube to bell housing bolts to go.

On a related note, I was giving GTORich a hard time because he was debating pulling his engine because it has some oil drips under it when parked. How bad does the ‘69 400 in my LeMans leak? Well, just an example, I pulled my starter out Monday night and set it on the floor. I went out today to find this!
Rich, THATS an oil leak!

Finally got the 400 out of the ‘63.
Came inside to eat, since I haven’t all day. I’d like to start the teardown tonight. We’ll see.

Finally got the 71 repaired. The ECM kept throwing DFI codes and the engine had a slight miss as it warmed up. Changed out the injectors made it worse. Had the car towed to a good local shop that fixes all. Turned out the injector harness connector to the main harness was not making a good enough connection. Tom replaced the harness and now runs fine.

Now to list it on BaT...

Got my new Kauffman tri power intake painted. Hope to get to the valley pan tonight or tomorrow and then install the intake and valve covers.

Rear sway bar on the 2+2. Quite a bit of fabrication, good thing I like a challenge. Gonna wait till it cools off to do some painting.

I figured before I start tearing my 400 down, I should at least get the block and heads as clean as I can externally, so as not to get that grit in the engine. Plan is for a regasket , Crower 404 springs, and cam swap only, depending on what I find in there. Cranking compression was 165-170 and it didn’t smoke and had good oil pressure. The oil pan, intake, timing cover, ect. ,I can clean easily enough in the parts washer.
So today I bought a can of degreaser and gave it a bath. I wanted to take it out in the driveway and pressure wash after soaking it with Gunk, but with no sons being at home, I honestly don’t think I could get that engine stand to roll over the 2” lip back into my shop. So I just did it inside, and hosed it off. It’s nice to have floor drains.
Maybe tomorrow I can get around to pulling the heads and cam to see what’s in this mystery engine.

My son and I took the cars to a small show yesterday where the Goat picked up a top 20 award. I cruised the GTO over to the monthly cars and coffee this morning. The bumpy roads really put the test to the new rear suspension. I ran into Carousel72TRed and his '69 GTO at the meetup.

The GTO is running great and doesn't need anything at the moment. I feel like I'm out of car projects so I guess the only thing left is to drive them.

Funny you should say that. My son has been shopping for something. He has been eyeing 3rd gen F-bodies and Fiero GTs. Last night a 240z popped up for a steal, but we were too slow to jump on it. So maybe there will be something soon!

Yup!
I had been waiting patiently to go check out a car about 6 hours from me. I inquired about this car over a month ago, but next weekend was the first chance I would have to make the entire day trip to look at it and come back home, as that’s quite a drive. Got a message this morning it got sold. Plenty more cars out there, but I’m never buying a car sight unseen again. Been there, done that.

Nothing. Still looking for heads for my ‘63.
I did drop off my Mercury’s alternator at the local electrical shop , as it’s not charging. He confirmed this on the bench. Nice thing about living in a rural agricultural area is we still have shops that rebuild starters and alternators because farmers are into that.
I know the owner from the local cruise in. He is into old Pontiacs. Last time he showed up in a spotless’64 GranPrix. He took me into the bay at his shop where he had an old 50’s Studebaker truck. He popped the hood to show me the 421 he put in! I wish a had took my phone in with me to get a pic. He just got it driving this past week.

Finally got insurance (long story) on the '26 and registered it. A two-mile test drive and to the corner for coffee without a problem. But I just barely avoided getting stranded. As I parked in the garage it lost all electric power! It turned out to be the aftermarket battery disconnect switch which is buried under the floor with the battery. Couldn't turn the knob by hand, so used pliers to tighten it, and all seems fine now. It's a lousy location; I'm guessing it exists only to satisfy car show officials.

Ran the Le Mans up to Newcomb’s Ranch (the restaurant has been closed for several years now) in the Angeles National Forest for an early Friday morning meet of the Good Vibes Breakfast Club. It has been a regular hangout for sport bikes and cars for decades.

It’s mostly exotics, imports and sports cars but everything and everyone is welcome. I rolled in at 7am after driving 50 miles on some very well-maintained canyon roads the entire way. I was there early enough to beat the crowd as I was the third car to arrive.

The Le Mans handled as well as one might expect on 215/75-14 radials, stock suspension, decent shocks and factory sway bars. The 421 performed flawlessly and ran cool, the hottest it got was 190 degrees on long uphill areas but usually stayed around 170 even in 90 degree weather on the ride home so I was pretty happy about that.
