Gary said this new guy at Cardone was really wanting to get this going again.
So, just maybe.....
I tried to tell him everyone is just dying to get correct pumps, maybe he'll get it going again.

Hang in there if you can, if you can't at least you know what to look for.

SO, it looks like the proper way to buy one of these is to first have the CORRECT backing plate from ILT and test whatever pump you can source (barring the Cardone unit coming through), right there on the parts counter!

Just looking at the pics posted the difference is not obvious without the plate installed. (at least it's not really apparent to me- the curved and flat vanes kinda look the same). The height, however, with the plate installed becomes more obvious.

That's what I did and was really lucky to find one out of seven pumps O'Reilly's had was correct!

So, I've gone ahead and called ILT this morning.
They had the divider plates as was mentioned earlier.

The part number for 69-77 model year is : INL11103 $11.00
Part number for 67 model year is: INL12846 $39.00

Shipping from MI to KY was over $12!

Total cost was $51.40!! (Seems a little steep considering the water pumps are probably cheaper but, I am deferring to the experts here and if this can save me the aggravation of fooling with a car that overheats, I guess it's worth the dough).

Once I can source a water pump I can post pics for all to enjoy!

So, you're working on two cars?

Not bad, really.

No sir. I'm just working on the 67 Tempest and the 2 little plates were $51.40 with shipping.

I posted the other part number to make it easier for anyone wanting to find it...

When I checked ILT's online catalog yesterday, I could only find the p/n for the 69-77 part and since it was only $11 I figured it that the 67 p/n would be similarly priced. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

Anyway, figured posting might help some folks. (might have been cheaper to buy an INCORRECT plate from the vendors and pound it into submission!

Also, a slight addition here: Just saw this article. It's from 2009 so it's probably already been discussed but I saw no mention of it in the other "cooling" discussion.

ok, 39 + 12, my bad.

Still, good as it gets.

Ames don't fit right and they're 49 + 18 ship?

Well, at least now I KNOW for sure that this part is CORRECT and all I need to do now is find the right pump and that will be one thing checked off the list that I won't need to worry about.

I'm presuming the water pump get painted the engine color as well?

Boostmaster, the divider plates from Ames are stainless steel and as far as I'm concerned they are crap. I tried to get Ames to have them made like the originals in stainless steel but their way of thinking is their SS plates are good enough. Not so. Have you ever tried to bend SS and have it look good with a perfect gap? Not me.

Even at a total cost of 51.00 from ILT that's a dam good deal for the correct plates. The only thing I'd do with them is paint them zinc chromate green.... if you can get it. Just a little added protection in case you use diluted antifreeze that's less than a 50/50 mix.

"zinc chromate green"--- I'll see what I can find. (Looks like it only comes as a primer) Is this correct?

http://www.skygeek.com/skilcraft-so-...FcI-MgodU30AZg

Also, did you see the Pontiac article link I posted above? They mentioned a non aqueaous coolant for the Pontiac.

"Evans Cooling Systems in Sharon, Connecticut, has developed a coolant called NPG+ (nonaqueaous propylene glycol) that doesn't use water, never freezes, and doesn't boil until 375 degrees. It's also a lifetime coolant, so maintenance is eliminated once it's installed."

Yeah, it is a primer. I believe that's what the originals were painted as they were an olive green color.

I know about Evans coolant but the one thing about it is...... it's expensive as all hell. 1 quart here at the parts store I go to it's $51.00. LOL You have to use all Evans... no mixing it. I'll stick with regular antifreeze until I'm ritcher.

I take that back... 1/2 gallon of Evans is 51.00.

holy crap that's expensive! I guess it's regular old antifreeze for me as well.
Although, lately I may call it's name into question: The other day I was getting the wife's car ready for a trip and I had a brand new unopened jug of antifreeze in the trunk. It was FROZEN. It's been a little cool over here in Lexington. 0* this morning.

Nevertheless, the Pontiac will be a "fun" car for nice weather only so it will never see any of this craziness.

I say someone stole the antifreeze out of the jug and put colored water in it. 50/50 antifreeze shouldn't freeze at 0°s... if that's what you had. Straight antifreeze is good to -84°s. I say someone is messin with ya. Or..... the store it came from is commiting fraud. Get an antifreeze tester and see how good whatever it is in the jug is.

The anti-freeze was from wal mart. Never had an issue with it before.
Temps were in the teens and over night we has some negatives with a windchill of close to -15 to -25. That being said, it was inside the back of the car so I was a little surprised that it was frozen...

I probably should test it... Wonder if manufacturers claims aren't always what they claim?

Wal Mart... now that explains things. I've got 50/50 here and it's never foze. Up in northern NY were it gets colder than -25, I never saw it freeze out in the garage or when I carried in the car. I still say there was something other than antifreeze in that jug of yours.

GT182: what brand of antifreeze are you using? Normally it's Peak or Prestone for me. Not a connoisseur of fluids- try to use what works. (Hail from warm climate areas, never really worried about freezing- until now!!!)

Old Blue 66: I second the motion. We need pics...
