Default Restoring a 1971 455ho gto convertible

Hi I am restoring a PHS documented 1971 Pontiac GTO 455 HO convertible. Thie car has as of today no ram air aircleaner with the coresponding hood pan. I was wondering if this delivered with all the 455 ho cars?

Thanks for all replies.

Ram air was optional on the 71 455HO GTO.

If your car was originally a non-ram air car, you would have a double snorkel air cleaner. Each snorkel would have a hot air tube connection, whereas the D-port double snorkel only had the hot air tube connection on the driver's side.

The carb would be a 704126X series for a non-ram air, but a 704127X for a ram air car.

I used to own a green 71 455HO non-ram air car.

Cool Details?

Not sure what details you are intrested in? I have no secret so please ask?
The car was sold new in Europe i belive, it has lived all its live in Portugal. Was a guy from Switzerland that owned a hotel in Portugal and used it there. Somewhere down the line the original 455 ho engine disapered and they installed a 400 engine with ram 3 heads on it.
But I had a correct 455 ho sitting in my garage( strange how life works sometime) so it will have the correct engine again.
Original color some sort of bronze color( dosnt remember the correct name now) with black interior.
Option- power-disc brakes-power steering.power windows-rallygauges. radio with 8 track-bucket with console ( some strange map light on the console?) non ac ca-tiltsteering- andf som other small itemsr.According to my information it was only made 27 of this version
Will under go a frame off restoration and will probably be on the road again in april ( got a lot of buddies with different skills :-) )

Restoration plan is very simple
1 strip the whole care to the bare metall
2. Straighten the body up 100%
3 When body is ready for paint then it will be lifted of the frame
4. frame . sandblasting- repaint and fresh rebuilt parts installed.
5 put it together and off to paint.
6 install moldings, chrome and so on.
7 DONE :-)
Sounds simple dosnt it? LOL

Nicely optioned, and interesting history. Not to mention rare! Of course some pictures too...

Castillion Bronze is probably the color. I assume it is an Auto Trans?

In my old files have 35mm pics & photo's of invoices of two documented '71 GTO 455HO converts. Both are cardinal red cars, factory dual snorkle HO's... not Ram Air aircleaners. The cardinal red/turbo 400, ivory interior equipted one is a restored local keeper... was built in Feb '71, a/c, & a white top. Encountered the second at '91 POCI western regionals... cardinal red '71 M22, black interior & black top, memory serves right. Believe someone else here on PY also owns non Judge '71 GTO HO conv.

Thanks for all the replies, I really appreciate it. Hey what if I show the resto while I do it? Can start with pictures of the car now like it is today.
And once I start working with it I can post some pictures and maybe also get some feedback if its correct done or not.
What do you say?

Ditto!! We need more 71 cars featured here. Post all the pictures you want to and we will happily critique you through this restoration process, pontificating as required, drooling when necessary and in general just living vicariously through you.

Looks great! Love the color combo, and looks to be well kept.

What is the story on the phone? I heard there was a phone option in 71, and a Triple White 71 Judge had it.
