Default '74 GTO headers round port heads

What is the best fitting headers for these cars that are running round port heads? I am running a 4 speed as well. I would prefer something that wouldn't make changing the oil a hassle, changing starter a hassle and would not rub against clutch linkage. I would certainly prefer to run the long branch manifolds but I'm not sure when or if they are going to be reproduced. Any suggestions?

I think those cars use the same headers as the 1st gen Birds. And Most guys say the Dougs fit best.

Looks like the part number is D568. They are about $800 coated.

The D568-B are painted black.

And the D568-R are raw, which I assume means no paint or coating, which makes 'em a bit cheaper.

Default Oil Filter

If I'm reading the Dougs site correctly, you need one of the smaller diameter filters, such as the Wix 51522 or NAPA 1522.

I'm about to change from to D-ports to Edelbrock roundports heads on my '72 Ventura. I have heard good thing about Mad Dog headers. I'm planning on ordering my headers next week. http://maddogheaders.net/products/pontiac

STAY AWAY FROM THE HEDMANS!!! They suck suck suck. You have to use headers for a first gen which uses the same subframe as the x bodies. Hedmans will need major "massaging" around the gearbox and rag joint as well as around the motor mounts (if you use a solid mount or ploy mount). I had mad dog make my current headers on my 74 in a 2"pipe. I eliminated the use of the stock mounts on my car and converted to a rack so they fit fairly easy. I didn't have to put one ding in them anywhere to get them on and they both come out underneath the car pointing straight compared to the goofy angle the Hedmans do. Mad Dogs are well worth the money. Stay away from Hedman!

Called Mad Dog to order my headers and found they are moving to Georgia. So it's going to be 12 weeks on a set of headers.

Unless Hedman made some serious changes on the driver side tubes, You'll have issues with the gear box, The rag joint, motor mount, and you'll have fun installing your starter which better be a mini. Passenger side is minimal.
