Just a note that I got mine done also, pretty much just like you did it. I just bought a 12" hinge though and it was pretty much perfect. It took a little bit of figuring out where to rivet it so it would work correctly but it fits great and has never worked so smooth! I even took it all apart, sand blasted and repainted the inner shell and got a new tire pressure sticker for it and even gave the front a quick coat of satin black Krylon Fusion to spruce it up a bit.

I'm glad it worked for you. The 12" hinge is much cheaper but I bought the 48" one just because I thought I'd screw them up and have to make multiple prototypes. I'd say the most critical parts are to install the hinge with the pivoting part as close to the location of the plastic hinge and to be careful to drill the holes in the door at the location where the metal is separated from the plastic front.

Very informative thread!. I just finished fixing the hinge on my 69 GTO glove box door. I did basically the same thing that you did. I don't have a drill press or a rivet gun. I hand drilled and tapped holes for 6/32 screws. These worked out very well and were easy enough to do with the tools I had on hand. I put a light coat of Rustoleum flat black on the hinge. I used the 12 inch hinge as well. Its hardly noticeable. Very sturdy repair. The key is to get the hinge as close to the factory hinge seam as possible. Very handy advice as the ONLY glove box door I could find was for $250. Thanks again, Ken

I wonder if the 68 Glove box hinge transfers to the 69-70 door. ...yea i've favored the 68 LeMans & GTOs because these qualities abound |
