The curious matter of concealing the seat feet. I've done the flap-over. Done the foot under nut/bolt above the carpet but that is very tough to do on all 4. Never done thebare feet on top of the carpet.

Think i will tuck the front feets under a carpet cut and cut a flap to get the rear feets down, then use a washer under the rear fastener ( nut or bolt i forget...probably a nut)

When I bought my 67 it had already been done and they mounted the feet over the rug. It looked okay only because the seat tracks looked NOS and were in perfect condition but it was still weird looking and I couldn't fix it because the rug had been mashed down and some light rust staining underneath the track. you could go with the power seat look at the back that had a metal flaps that covered the rug squeezing it down tight so the seat track wouldn't foul into it. I did a small run of reproductions (about 25 sets of them) that I sold a few years back but it was a ton of work hand forming the clam shell shape and the last couple of sets took too long to sell so I called it quits. Most people don't know those metal seat track covers existed since it's the first thing to toss out of the way when the power seats got pulled from the junk yard. Anyways, those are a nice way of finishing off the rugs at the back of the seats if you had a set of them.

The correct " Manual Trans, no Console" carpet arrived. Gonna R&R the rear carpet first. Day of excitement for me.

Well the "old" 2005 rear carpet is out and the new 2018 rear carpet is in place nicely. Bucket seat rear feet are hidden by the natural seat position so I'm motivated to set rear feet on to of carpet.

Rear seat needs like 6 springs to prop up the thick wire frame Wish i had a 30" section of Zig-Zag spring steel and 12 clamps to make such a suspension.

I saw a link somewhere that someone sells all the spring material by the foot and hardware for car seats. Can't remember if it was an ebay deal or what.

Contact Ben “Rambow”, see posts earlier in this thread. He was a big help when I rebuilt my seat springs and supplied me with the spring parts and clamps I needed. I think he also has a Facebook page showing the nice work he does redoing seats.

Awe geez i just bought springs and clips from here
https://www.fabricfarms.com/upholstery-springs.html
and am posting it like i found a good thing.

I probably got inferior clips for spring-to-spring joints.

I recently tore apart an old couch for disposal and inside were the same type of springs...can't say if they were the same spring weight but was very tempted to store yet another unneeded thing in the barn

Ditto. Ben is a fantastic resource and generous with his time, advice, and help with parts.

Cut the zig-zag to 4 1/2 zzs with a fine hacksaw, belt sanded the ends, and crimped into the rear seat to re-suspend the back zone, using hog ring pliers. Easy peazy.

Pry bar on the stock front row of zigzag suspension brought those back to life.

Rear Seat fits good now, tucks into Backrest alot better and...ready to tackle the front carpet and Driver seat.

I recommend the zigzag & clips per my link.

Default Original 68 rear carpet

Pulled out my original carpet pulled years ago when I started this marathon. Rear section shows just holes (not L slit cuts) punched in carpet for rear mounting of bucket tracks on passenger side. My car has the power bucket option on drivers side and you can see the carpet was cut but the rear feet of the power tracks were mounted on top of the carpet (see rust stain imprints of feet), then the “clam shells” mentioned in post #22 on top before nuts.

One thing I’ve been wondering, the clam shell pieces appear to have been originally painted pearl/parchment to match my interior, even though the carpet was black. Seems odd, painted black would make sense, and be less noticeable. If anyone has any insight on the power seat carpet protector pieces and proper color, let me know.

gto4evr, I just checked the Forum and your comment about the reason for the bare space does make sense. It would definitely make it easier to install after the seats are bolted down.
Thanks. MaxWT
