Quit changing the subject Mike. Let’s get the base question answered first. JohnTA has only gotten us half way there.

As far as I know, there isn't any further breakdown for the 72 Formula 455 HO's. I would like to ask Fred if he has any more data sheets somewhere.

I guess I knew that answer and no matter what website it all goes back to Fred's numbers.
That was my point. Nothing new on that breakdown....

This just in from Fred Simmonds - it looks like only 82 of the 276 (30%) 1972 455 HO Formulas had the M22 transmission. Also, based on other widely known production data, 455 HO Formulas were only 17.6% of the the total production of 455 HO equipped F-Body cars in 1972. So which is worth more - a 1972 Trans Am or a 1972 455 HO Formula?

Well, that's breaking news!
As far as worth I'd say it depends on the apples to apple comparisons. A Formula HO would need to have the handling package, posi, gauges, ps, pb, Formula steering wheel. Couldn't get a swirl dash, shaker hood, fender flares/vents or decals. Yet some thought Formula hood with RA was the better system. As far as fender flares/vent and decals. TA couldn't get any colors except white and lucey. So, in conclusion the nicely equipped LB TA 4 speed would be more valuable. Imho....

Wow...That's awesome news, I thought that information with those Formula numbers had been lost with all that was going on in 1972. Thank you for posting that information. Being fairly new to this board and not knowing the background of all the members- How accurate do you think those notes are?
Thanks, CLW

We're so fortunate to have such a passionate Pontiac historian like Fred in our midst. A living legend for sure.
In regards to T/A vs Formula value, my dad says he never cared for the Trans Am's because of the bolt on plastic, he preferred the Formula's for his new car inventory, easier sales. |

Thanks Doug for getting in touch with Fred, and looking thru his notes for 72 Formula HO breakdown.
But, you never answered the value question?

Care to share details on yours? Assume a 73 SD 4 speed too?
