Hurst shifter stick question
I have a Hurst Competition Plus 2 bolt style shifter in my 70 GTO, and the stick is too short for my liking. I would like to put a more original style/length stick in it, but the reproduction is the slip in style stick with only one hole. My question is, can I simply drill the second hole in the repro stick and have it fit correctly? Thanks for any help.

I would think that you could but I will tell you one thing about when I tried it years ago...it is some hard stuff to drill!

So you're saying get an extra really good drill bit or two, haha! Thanks for the reply!

I've never used one but the Hurst #5387438 might work for you. Below is a link from Jegs. BTW it looks this shifter is offset to the passenger side 1.47".

Too bad. I was hoping that shifter would work for you. Interested about the offset. In the pictures it looked like it offset towards the passenger side. Good to know since I was thinking about trying one on my 1967 GTO.
Maybe you will have to try the reproduction one and possibly a machine shop could drill and match the holes if you don't have a drill press and sharp bits. |

Jegs has a number of other Hurst sticks available, there may be one of the others that is shaped better for your needs. https://www.jegs.com/p/Hurst/Hurst-R...49354/10002/-1 I'm pretty sure Hurst has even more styles available than what's shown in the Jegs catalog; I once came across a chart showing all their different styles with dimensions, but don't recall where it was - maybe somewhere on the main Hurst website.

I checked the Hurst website and didn't see anything that was comparable to the original stick. I did find an original 4555 Hurst stick that would also need drilling, but I know would work the best. Thanks again guys.

I don't know how they can market this and not have the shifter stick separately.

The factory round bar sticks are sold separately and are made with the 2 holes to bolt onto the aftermarket Hurst style shifters.
I have a catalog of all the factory sticks offered like this somewhere around here. Shows all the dimensions of each stick offered. Must be 100 different sticks in there. Been a while since I had to buy one, and since catalogs are seldom used these days I don't even think there is an updated version of it but many of the part numbers are still relevant. I'll have to see if I can find that catalog. Aren't cheap though. Last time I used the catalog and bought a "2 hole" round bar Hurst stick was 5-6 years ago and even then it was over $100. Probably double that now LOL |

462gto...That is the exact shifter handle I have in my 67GTO with Legend 5 speed. I think it is very close to the original curve. It works perfectly for me. Nobody has ever questioned it. I keep the walnut 4 speed knob on there so nobody even knows it's a 5 speed unless I tell them. I bought it in 2015 and it was $77, now it's $119.

Here's a page from it that I swiped from one of OPH's old post. I think he got it from Pete Serio..

Maybe it's just me, but I've searched all over and I can't find a 2 hole, round bar 4555 style stick anywhere. Thanks for all the help though. I appreciate it.
