Default Painting the grill on a 70 GTO question

I am redoing the grills on my 70 GTO and my question is. How do I paint the center part of the grill, since it is argent silver that goes half way the squares? Help please. Thanks Steve

I thought the egg crate was black and the surround was argent?

The front surface edge of the grille "egg crate" is Argent. To replicate this while the inside of the crate is black, I have used a special silver sharpie. This sharpie has no pocket clip and is supposed to be stored cap on, Point down. Takes time but a sweet job, easy to touch up after the dragon fly impact too ! This passed a judge at MACN as well.

Staples, BUT, these are usually sold individually, have real metal in them and NO CLIP on the cap. They are meant to be stored tip Down , so they work correctly as they have more than permanent ink in them.
You may see silver markers with a pocket clip on the cap , those are Not the ones you want for this job.
Good luck, have patience, and do not overlap too much. Wait till its dry to evaluate before any tune up work on it.

Originally it was "ABS" black.. No paint. I use Eastwood trim black paint if one is faded or needs work.

I just did my '68 a couple of weeks ago. I didn't find an argent that I was looking for but I had a can of VHT SP127 Universal Aluminum. Looked perfect to me.
Similar deal with painting everything black first and then masking off for the silver. The back half of every individual vane is black on the '68 also.
I had to touch up a few spots after this photo. For that, I sprayed the paint on a piece of glass and used a small brush and MORE masking tape. A LOT of masking on this deal... I mention that because if you can't find the marker, you might be able to do the same for the argent on the front edge. Small artist's brush with bristles cut almost all the way back to the handle or even one of those small sponge paint applicators you get at the hardware store in the paint dept.
