I sent the speedo and clock to Auto Instruments in Collinsville, VA. Total for everything was $985, of which almost half was for making the stencils to repaint the individual gauges. They claim that they had never done this set before. FWIW they turned out better than new.

Note, if anyone is considering changing theirs out to gauges, the harness is different and it is a wiring nightmare. Mine is not back in yet, so we shall see how it all works.

From the FWIW dept, the 455 I picked up from you (that had lived in this 67 GP) looked brand new inside. I bolted on a set of lightly ported, slightly milled 6X-8 heads, put in a 230-236 hyd roller cam and random other parts from my previous 400. New oil pump, water pump, timing chain etc. It is now living in front of a TKO600 in my GTO.
It is a monster..........

It's not too horrible if you have the wiring diagram\schematics, but they sure didn't make the '67 cluster easy to work on or easy to change out (light bulbs either). It's kind of ridiculous how everything is wired in point to point on these cars...

Nice to hear from you David and glad the 455 worked out well for you. I sure could have used the oil pan from the motor for the GP, as it is a very shallow pan in the front and no one makes a reproduction that will work, "says he who had the motor in and out 6 times with 3 different pans."

Was unaware there was a "shallow" front pan. I know there are different pans throughout the years for the different pan gaskets/rear main seals and the drain plug locations. So are you saying an original OEM pan will work but the reproductions won't?

I put new motor mounts in but found out someone had used the wrong tail shaft transmission mount which was taller than the OEM and tilted the motor forward putting the pan closer to the crossmember.

Following a lot of research and phone calls, I could not find a reproduction pan that would fit. From what I could tell, the 65-67 used a pan that is shallow and narrow in the front. I have 2 new pans that I would sell cheap!

How are you coming on your cornering lights? Do you have the correct turn signal switch for cornering lights? Don't know how hard it is to find this piece.

Thanks for asking and I found a NOS turn signal switch and I have 2 sets of lights, with one set of bezels out for new chrome now, plus I located a set of NOS lens.

The only thing I don't have is the harness, and I really am not sure what it consists of because I have never looked at one in detail?

I am thinking that worst case I can fabricate one?

If anyone has knowledge, experience, or pictures of the harness it is appreciated.

Looking forward to meeting some of you guys at POCI 2015!

In 69 the forward lamp harness includes the wiring you need. There is a 1 wire connector that hangs out of the harness.

Btw, the most common reason they don't work at first is bad grounding. They ground to the fender surface so sand the inside of the fender to metal.

I bought a new forward lamp harness for my 67 GP with cornering lights, and it had everything needed for those lights. Pretty sure I did not re-use anything from the original harness.

Progress report

quarters are now repaired
new trunk pan installed
minor repairs made to floor pans
cowl area around heater core repaired from accident many years ago

I am very fortunate to have a very patient old school body man that agreed to take the project on.

The body and all panels are now very close to being ready for paint.

With a little luck it will be back on the restored chassis by early summer.

Coach, you need to come down and give me a hand. Yours was the inspiration to make me decide to go triple black on this one.

February was a good month for progress on the GP. Got her paint on yesterday.

Still needs a lot of wetsanding and buffing.

Sorry about the cartoon, I just couldn't help myself.

Early April update, painted bare body is headed back on the refurbished frame.

Although they are difficult to see, you can pick out the tubular a-arms, rear swing arms and the HD front and rear stabilizer bars.

I just bought a tilt column with cornering lamp harness ...I'll take some pics for you and you should be able to make one without too much trouble ...

Been a while and making some progress. Body and paint are mostly done and assembly is in place. Should have "Argo" back home by June for interior, dash assemble, wiring, fire up the motor for the first time and so on.

what do you guys think about a matching red line stripe?
