Default Mallet Solstice ( and Sky ) Registry

I don't know if anyone else here owns one, or is even interested but after buying my 2006 Mallet Solstice #024, I became interested in how many were actually made. I always read that Chuck Mallet planned on Converting 100 a year for 3 years, and I commonly saw that 300 conversion number thrown around the web.

I have spoke with Chuck Mallet, and while he was nice, answered a few questions, he was not interested in talking about how many cars where actually converted. So a few months ago I started keeping track of sales and it turned into an informal registry. As of today I have 26 Solstice & 9 Sky conversions on the Registry with various levels of info.

If anyone else has of or knows of any other cars please let me know. Thanks

I have the Following Solstice's Listed

2006

#001, #003, #004, #006, #008, #012, #013, #014, #015, #018, #021, #023, #024, #025, #028, #033, #034, #035, #041

2007

#002, #005, #007, and a LS3 car with an unknown build Number

2008

#001, #006, and a LS7 car with an unknown build number
Also a Race car built for a European series know as the GT Racer.

2007 Sky's

#004, #005, #006, #009, #010, #019

2008 Sky's

#002, #004

I remember reading about them, and thinking it would be a fun (and fast) car to own. Were they all ragtops, or were some of the coupes converted as well?

I just looked, and Mallet still has the conversion shown on their website - if someone showed up at his door with a Solstice would he still be willing to convert it, or is their website just out of date? I see he does keep a registry there, but it only lists Corvettes along with a few Cadillacs and one SUV.

/\ iirc coupes were only offered from late 2009 forward.

If everyone didn't think they were such a future collectible, I probably would have looked into getting one, because I love the look of the coupe, I love the LNF engine, and think rwd would be a whole lot funner than my Cobalt.

Mallet went bankrupt in 2008 so they did not convert an Coupes as as already stated all coupes are 2009 or 2010 (10 or so preproduction cars sold to the public) I do know of 2 coupes converted to V8's, one done by the owner, and one with a LS3 done by Lingenfelter Performance.

I did pick up a N/A Coupe last year, manual trans car. Perfect for a possible LS swap in the future.

As for will the new Mallet company convert a Solstice or Sky today? Probably if the customer was willing to spend the $$$ I doubt the current prices listed on the site would be honored as they have not changed from 2008. I know that the stock LS2, LS3, & LS7 engined cars are reliable, I have heard some horror stories about the supercharged LS7 converted & a couple of owners had issues getting them registered in CA due to emission checks. But they mostly had to do with incorrect exhaust manifold P/N's used, and the fact that the Corvette transmission & rear axle ratio was not used in 1 car.

You can get a Higher mileage non turbo coupe for around $12,000 now. I agree the prices of the GXP Coupes is out of my budget. They usually want over $30,000 for one with less than 50,000 miles.

I think the LS2 & LS3 Mallet cars are very fun to drive on nice days, I have put over 18,000 miles on my LS2 car sense I bought it in November of 2016. It has run 11.8 in the 1/4 mile, and really ticked off some Porsche owners on Watkins Glen in 2019 on an open track day.

Honestly Jeff, I didn't know they made any non-GXP coupes!
That's neat - not neat enough for me to get rid of my daily driver Cobalt for one though.

I understand completely, when I picked mine up in May at the start of the Covid lock down here in MI. The coupe just sort of fell into my lap at a great price, the PO had to get rid of it for personel reasons, and it clicked almost all the boxes I told my wife a coupe would have to be a manual trans, Yellow or Orange, and have the optional Soft top with it for me to consider it. The fact that it was local to me was also a deciding factor, no road trip or delivery fee to get it to the house.

Thanks for keeping updated on the Mallets you've come across, and good luck with the registry! I had another knee surgery in November, and my wife & I have decided our small car days are over - so no need for future updates. Putting our Cobra replica up for sale when the weather gets better, it is just no longer comfortable for me to get in/out of. If anything, I know where a '71 LeMans Safari wagon with a factory 455 and 12-bolt is, and think I can talk the (original) owner into selling :-)

Thanks for the good wish's Lee, good luck with the 71 Safari! They are nice cars, I owned a beat up daily driver with a 455 years ago. If it wasn't so rusty I would still have it. It was a great dog hauler!

I noticed that #41 was recently sold on the Bring A Trailer site: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...c-solstice-17/
