Matt, Is the vent tube hole in a different location than the '71 as well?

Dennis ,I looked at the bumps in the 70 air cleaner and the 71 air cleaner and they’re the same and the hole location is the same ,the only difference is the hole location for the valve cover breather tube which on the 70 is closer to the snorkel by a substantial amount

Thanks Matt for the RAIV TA base pics. That got me wondering about the air cleaner bases for the 70 vs. 71 RA Formulas. It looks like they didn't change the vent tube location between the years, but not sure if the "Holley Bumps" were removed for '71 (no pictures without the lid...so I can't say for certain if they are, or, are not there). I also included '71 A & F body dual snorkel 455HO air cleaner base pictures for comparison...

Look at your third picture and see how close the valve cover breather tube is to the snorkel that’s got to be a very early 71 air cleaner or a 1970

Matt, It's an 05B build car from Van Nuys and it has the original '71 455HO dual snorkel air cleaner, but I would image all the 455HO air cleaners were produced early on in the model year and probably over stocked since PMD made only 159 non-RA 455HO Formulas that year...so, not surprising it is patterned off the 1970 unit.

A couple questions:

Did the '71 TA/RA/Dual Snorkel bases have the "Holley Bumps"?

Were the TA shaker bases the same, except for the wing nut tabs welded on?

Thanks Matt! So the stripped air cleaner base/tub serves as the core for the different hardware (snorkels, RA Formula intake extensions, TA shaker lid tabs)...makes sense to me.

So after looking at the 70 ram air formula air cleaner, the bases do look the same obviously the openings are bigger for the formula Heat riser extensions and the location seems to be slightly different

I have to agree with your assessment after looking more closely at the pictures.

Thanks for checking and posting the pics.

Thanks Chris! It sure looks like the RA Formula air extensions (not sure what to call them...) openings at the base are wider and a different profile than the TA/Dual snorkel openings.

I'll have to compare them side by side when I'm back over at Dan's.

On factory RA air cleaners with studs on the snorkels, how were they originally secured to the brackets, with nuts or wing nuts?

I had understood they used wing nuts - the same kind as the air cleaner lid.

Default 1970 T/A ram IV question

O.K., so I have here the original RAIV pan for my 1970 TA...Took some photos of the "plug" that was installed originally...This is what you would find on the 70 TA pan that DOES have the 71 up hole in it...

I wonder how many wingnuts vibrated off the undersides of the air cleaners back in the day. I'm also sure the nuts and the brackets were discarded often since they are a pain to deal with every time you want to remove the air cleaner and/or valve covers.

Dennis, do you know what years and which body styles used the 2 support brackets to the underside of the Ram Air air cleaners?
(In my case 1972 HO Formula and 1972 HO GTO)

Sorry for getting off the OP topic.

My understanding is '70 & '71...'72's & up didn't have the studs, so no brackets. Possibly early '72's had them as well. Tellyshavilli probably knows for sure.

My apologies to the OP as well for continuing the derailment...
