Came across an Oakland yesterday in the Good-Guys swap meet. The only cool thing there... If it wasn't an overpriced rust box I'd own it right now. You may have scored the last build worthy pre-32 split grill...

Those front brakes are eye-candy! What are the finned backing plates from?

They are from Wilson welding it is an aftermarket backing plate made to match the Buick aluminum drums they also bolt directly to early ford type spindles

I used a ford type transverse spring with a dropped axle and hairpins all from SoCal speed. The stock parallel springs are horrible and if you are not using fenders they have to go the ford stuff is easily available

I was told to use a Ford front end with the hairpins on my 31 Plymouth 3 window. I have 2 frames. The body is sitting on a 34 Plymouth frame now that has factory independent front suspension. The front end has to be changed. The 34 frame is boxed with a X member. The frame will take any kind of drivetrain I put in it. What did you use for a rear end? I have some vintage torq thrust that will go on mine. I have to use either a 4.75 bolt pattern or a 4.5 bolt patttern.

My frame is using the original rails they have been boxed and have an x member I am using a 70 firebird 10 bolt with 3:42 gears the rear suspension is ladder bars from SoCal and coil over shocks with a panhard bar. I went with the 5x4 3/4 pattern since the rear already has it in the front I used buick aluminum drums from a 59 so they were redrilled for 4.75 pattern. The rear drums are 80's Grand Prix aluminum

I know where to get a late 70s T/A rear end with a limited slip. The problem is it has something like 2:73 gears in it. I want to use a 4 speed transmission. I have both the aluminum brake drums and rear disc brakes that I can use. The 34 frame will take a lot less work than the original 31 frame. Your body is cleaner than the one I have. I have a few small rust issues that need to be fixed. I was also thinking about chopping the top and channeling the body

You can always change the gears f body rears are cheap I only paid 150 for mine I would stay away from the rear discs that come on the rears if you realy need them use the s10 setup it's a straight swap and works very well. I don't know about the dodge but my car only weighs about 2000 so drums all around are fine. There are lots of disc set ups for the ford front ends if you go that way. Are you running fenders on your car I know that dodges are the first all steel body so you don't have to deal with the wood like I had to

I have the fenders but I don't think I am going to use them. I want a traditional hot rod. Mine is a 31 Plymouth PA. The info is sketchy on them. It might actually be considered a 32. It uses wood behind the door frame opening but that's about it. It had a canvas top at one time and the body was made to flex near the windshield post on top. Mine has a oval back window. I think some of the late 20s Pontiacs also used a oval back window.
