Default **NEW PRODUCT!!** 1969 Pontiac V8 4” (SHORT) hub water pumps

Now available from Ames Performance Engineering: 1969 Pontiac V8 4” (SHORT) hub water pumps. These transitional water pumps were used on early production 1969 models only. Each pump is manufactured with OEM markings and large vein cast iron impellers like originals. Cast impellers are imperative for optimal cooling-unlike stamped steel impellers, cast iron parts eliminate unwanted deflection and eliminate the potential for cavitation in the timing cover body.

What's considered "early" 1969 production? My 69 Firebird was built Jan 14th 1969.

Thanks!

-ALL bone stock original '69 Pontiac V8's used the "351" casting "short" 11 bolt water
pump.

-The first "tall" 11 bolt water pumps were not even cast till mid July of '69 (for early '70 model V8 Pontiac usage). If this later height of original water pump had been originally used on April, May, June, July of '69 built Pontiacs, it's use would have been documented by hard core restorers & specialty core providers/ pump restorers. Instead, the opposite has been documented on several very late production '69's.

-The Pontiac dealership service procedure eventually was to remove the "short" style 11 bolt pump & to replace it with a "tall" style 11 bolt pump AND the corresponding correct '70 model WP pulley. This service procedure worked fine on all '69 Pontiac V8's EXC '69 Firebird V8's, ESP on V8 Birds originally installed with 4 core radiator, factory 5 blade flex fan, & the tough to find spacer that was used in this application.

It's hard for me to imagine there is much demand for these......I converted
my car to the long pump 35 years ago........Great idea about 35 years too late.

It appears that most, if not all 1969 Firebird/Trans Am utilized a short hub water pump from the factory. As for the rest of Pontiac, GM had omitted the water pump from it's parts books as early as November 1969 though I have heard of some GTOs built as late as December that still had the short hub water pumps.

FlowKooler has a high dollar rebuild service, for those 4" pumps, if somebody wants to keep their original pump housing, but upgrade to the FlowKooler impeller.

At least I assume it's an upgrade. BUT, I'm sure many disagree, & think that stock factory impellers are better. I have no idea.

I don't have much experience with other reproduced water pumps. Given the chinese origins of many of these parts now what is the consensus about the quality and durability? Especially the bearing, the seal and the press fit flange?
