Agree, very doable with a 400 and still very streetable. Plenty of engines smaller than that making over 500hp that make fine street engines.

Potential for much more power with carb, cam, compression changes but fits the definition of a street car that can be driven across the country on pump gas.
Starts at the touch of the key, idles at 800 in gear and drives smooth at low speeds. At this time I’m not willing to give up any of that drive ability for more power, it has enough.
Biggest drawback is it’s a death trap with normal street radials, stick DOT tires required.
What did you car weight with you in it when you ran those nymbers.

Note this list is Pump Gas.

Your idea of a neck snapping 500 hp 400 and mine concidering the OPs 3,36 rear gears are 2 different things!

Combo is:

IAII A with a 4.320" bore x 4.21" stroke (Ohio crank 4340), 494 ci
Crower forged rods/Ross pistons
SD CNC heart chamber Eddy RP heads that flow 335 cfm
246/252 at 0.050", 0.400" lobe CC HR on a 112 LSA
Northwind with an 850 cfm carb

Have all the parts, just need to balance the rotating assembly and put together. Will run with a TH400, 3500 stall converter and a 3.07 rear gear in a '72 LeMans convertible.

4.350 bore x 4.50 stroke = 535
Solid roller
296/304 @.020
260/267 @.050
4.210 lobe lift
112 LSA
10.42 SCR (would have to double check)
4L80e
3.73
No dyno time

Thanks to Steve C on cam, spring, retainer selection. I think I would have gone 114 LSA and liked it a little more. Idles at 850 RPM, 11" vacuum, PB & A/C works as desired, drives easy, and becomes a monster with throttle.

Pics attached, but most have seen already....

No dyno time, I kind of didn't care what the dyno numbers are.

E-heads, round port, Butler @320cfm type.

The head flow is what probably holds it back some, 330s or 345s would have been better, but kind of didn't want to wait longer for them.
