Is there a front seal on a 68 Muncie? I am finding oil on bottom of trans after a drive and wondering if it could be leaking from a front seal. I’ve noticed a little oil on the ground after a drive.

Only an oil slinger on the main shaft. Over filling will have oil coming out.

Ditto, it's probably the cluster gear pin that pokes through the front of the case. Very common for old Muncie cases to leak there.

With the forces of the gears always pushing down on the cluster gear when power is applied, over time it will distort the case at that cluster gear pin. That pin just relies on a snug fit to seal it, there is no seal there.

The fix is to either have that hole machined and bushed to make the pin fit tight again, or a cheaper and easier solution is to machine a small groove in the case for an o-ring that will seal around the cluster pin. I've had them either way. Still running an old M-20 that I machined and put an o-ring in more than 20 years ago and it's still dry. Requires complete disassembly to fix it though.

Another common place is the shifter shaft seals on the side cover. Those are easy to fix but you suspect your leak is coming from the front.

It’s got 68k on it and never opened. It didn’t leak at all. When it was out of the car I had it sitting on a magazine on the ground. For whatever reason it tipped over and I had a puddle shortly after.
I forget that happened and when it was reinstalled maybe it was overfilled but why did oil come out to begin with? Does that make sense oil come come out just tipping over?

I can’t really tell where it’s coming from but the bottom ends up wet after I drive. If I recall there’s a square plate at the bottom not very big with at least one screw and that is the wet area.

So It actually looks like the side cover is leaking and not the front at all. Shifter seals?

This side area is the wet side. Can this be repaired without removing trans?

Easy thing to check first is have the car at ride height and pull the fill plug on the side case. Oil level should be at the bottom of the hole. If it runs out it was overfilled.

Had two do that for me. I just loosen the 4 mounting bolts slide the trans back and drained the box cleaned with 2+2 and put some silicone sealer on a putty knive and tighten it back up.

I think it was determined to be shifter seals. That’s getting fixed while heads are being done.

I would do as others have mentioned about sealing the cross shaft area while your at it. I have used permeatex "right stuff" in the past on the front case, around the perimeter of the shaft & sealed it to the belhousing. never leaked there again.
