What is the cut off year to direct bolt a 70s 400 into a 69 Pontiac, with a 69 400 turbo? I also know the motor mount bolts changed, but when? Thanks.

all 69-80 use the three bolt mount. Earlier used 2 bolt mount.

In 1970 the blocks went to five holes for the motor mounts. A-Bodies up to 72 use the same two holes that they always did. F-Bodies use the three new holes for motor mounts. Some of the late 70's blocks are not tapped in the two holes you need. So if the block has threads in the two holes you should be ok.

The first answer was simpler. Now, there is a 400 out of a 78 Bonney. Will this work? Do I need to count holes?

Yes, you'll need to count.
I think about mid-late 1976 they dropped the 2 early style mount bolt bosses and used the 3 bosses with the newer mounts.
