Default Will a 80 TA posi fit a 68 GTO?

Easy question........as I killed my Posi in the GTO and I'm a bit short of funds, will a posi from my 80 TA fit it? Both are 10 bolt rear ends.

Cheers

Aaron

06OAT:
Although they are 10 bolt, they have different mounting points. The TA rearend will be a leaf spring setup and the A-Body or GTO will be a coil spring setup among other possible differences like control arms, width, etc.
Now, I am sure someone can/did do the swap at one time I don't think the hassel of changing everything would outweight the time, effort and cost it would take to find the right rearend.
Another little difference would be the GTO had (originally) an 8.2 inch ring gear while the TA will have had an 8.5 inch ring gear.
Just my 2 cents - I am sure others will have more/better info for you shortly.

I guess I should have been more specific in my intial query.......whoops.

I only want to find out if I can swap the centre..........if there is a difference in ring gear size, I guess not!

Cheers

This is what's left, I know that hole ain't supposed to be that elongated, but it does account for the unexplained driveline clunk I had!

They're different parts entirely. The '68 is an 8.2 and the '80 is not.

Your answer is in the 2nd post of the thread. You will not be able to change the internals.

Has anyone ever tried to remove the center section of an 8.5 10 bolt rear and put the 8.2 rear axle tubes on it? Are the axle tubes the same diameter?

A nice idea but unfortunately a no-go.

If the ring and pinion hasn't been damaged could you get a new Carrier and replace it?That or go to Eaton and buy a brand new unit for your GTO.
