Unhappy 69 GTO tire wheel size 17's or 18's

i have been reading past posts on tire and wheel sizes and i just do't have a clear direction which wat to go . i have gone to car shows and have collected info but never got a straight answer maybe some one out here can help me
i have a 69 GTO conv. i would like to run 17" wheels front and back. i am going to use disc brakes on all four corners . i want to also use 2" drop spindles in the front . what is the maximum width wheel i can use? which back space ? is the back space going to be differant from the front to the rear?
now the tricky part , tire sizes???

thanks Jim

I would go with a 17x7 inch wheel on all four corners, and pick
the proper size tire in a radial that corresponds with the width and diameter
of a 225-70 -14. You need to ask for a wheel with a stock offset.

285/40x17 on 17 x 10 x 5.5" look good on the rear
295/35x18 on 18 x 10 x 5.5" should work as well

for the front
245/45x17 on 17 x 8 x 4.5 or
255/45x17 on the same

My 17" wheels and tires in the living room right now as I'm waiting to get the motor back in before I put them on the car. I have done a considerable amount of research on what fits before purchasing these and I have an Excel spreadsheet that I can email you that has more info. Right now the 295/50x15s are on the rear which look pretty good too however they would rub just a little on hard turns until I installed a sway bar and replaced the upper trailing arms.

You may want to go with a smaller dia on the front due to the drop spindles. I lowered mine 1". I'm hoping to have them on the car in the next few weeks.

Curt , i plan on installing a sway bar and polygraphite bushings in thr rear. i saw a 67 chevelle at the good guys car show in waukesha wi . he had 235 / 45 17's on the front and 245 / 55 18 's on the rear . i wasn't quite smart enough to ask him about B.S. and width . but the look is what i want.
please email me at eng@shelmet.net with your spread sheet info

Jim
