New Gauges
Has anyone installed new aftermarket gauges in the dash (inplace of stock speedo etc.) of a 1969 GTO. Any ideas or direction/parts being used would be appreciated.
Thanks. |

Just curious why you'd want to replace the stock speedometer for an aftermarket one? if it's due to it not working, you can pick up stock non-rally clusters all day long for $15 off ebay or 1/2 the members on this board.

I installed an autometer speedo and tach in my 68 GTO. Cut them out of the cans then fabed bracket to fit in the stock dash.

Thanks guys. I wanted to put in a tach instead of the clock so I was going to upgrade the speedo. I was of the opinion that quality guage manufactures such as Auto Meter and Sun were much better that the repops for tachs and speedos. My experience with a repop hood tach was not a good one.

Jack,
curious how you put that speedo in, did you gut out the original to leave the turn signal lamps in place? I can't be sure but is that a rally cluster with gauges instead of the lights? Nice modification, a trip meter in a GTO! 69ragr, I don't think they're repopping speedo's but maybe I'm wrong, but as I said, they're cheap and easily available (I'm sure I have a couple in the piles out in the shed) |

gto4evr, Jack seems to have a 68 GTO (from pic), which had the turn signal indicators on the dash, rather than in Speedo face

rob,
the 68 indicator lights were still mounted on the cluster. There were long plastic tubes that tunneled the light from the cluster out to the dash. |

I see..thanx. Wouldn't that still be fucntional then unless he dismantled the actual cluster casing? Installing speedo shouldn't affect it..

Here is a set of 68 gauges for an example.
I have these for sale on the EBAY. However as an example for this thread, here are some pics.

It's been a looooong time since I played with a 68. Thanks Mortimer -- THAT's it!
