303 Ram V
Anyone ever see this???
Getting ready to assemble the short block and noticed this oil restrictor. This pic is the upper saddle of #1 main bearing and the restrictor is threaded into the oil passage that goes to the pass side lifter galley. Thanks KC

I have never seen that but after extensive study of the Pontiac oiling circuit, it makes sense.

I am not understanding that as according to my oil flow schematic I made a number of years ago the number 1 main hole in the block only feeds the number 2 rod Bearing and the number 1 Cam journal, am I wrong ?
If I am wrong then how are the driver's side lifters going to be restricted restricted other then in each lifter Bore?

It will keep more oil to the bottom and less oil to the lifters on one side of the engine... High RPM road race conditions leave it in, street type deal or drag race I would remove it... JMO

Jeff Suchma here in Houston had a RAV block that had restrictors in all the cam bearing feed lines when he got it. I don't remember the history on that block.
Jeff at one time had a clone of the Gay Pontiac funny car but I never heard he completed it.

A local guy here restricted all five cam bearings using a hole in the restrictor larger than the hole in the cam bearings.

How does that make sense?

I want to think I saw an article on a Mondello Olds build and their passages were similar and he used a restrictor there.

Did not realise the factory (or other builders) did this.
We did the same on our 408 jetsprint engine for sustained WOT 6.5k rpm usage. Restricted at this crossover galley, and redrilled / clocked cam bearings. All our oil pressure was logged at the No1 main via a tube out the front of the block, not at the rear.

This block was supposedly owned by Buck Baker when he ran a 69 Firebird in Trans Am Racing which would explain the restrictor.
Paul K , I was thinking the same thing, remove it for street driving. Thanks for the replies. KC
