Default Service vehicle soon light illumination

This is "service vehicle soon" and not "service engine soon". This is on my twenty year old 2004 GTO. I bought this car new and it currently has 112,000 miles. It has never spent a day in a shop except for tires and inspections. The car is TOTALLY stock with NO modifications. Runs and drives just like it did on day one.

I have had the "service engine soon" light on my GMC Envoy and that resulted in replacing the cat converters. But I have never seen this "service vehicle soon" light.

From what I could find searching it could be something as simple as a light bulb, or something more serious and only a certain scan tool could pinpoint the issue as it is not an obd-2 code reader event.

I love this car and have never kept a new car this long and have no plans of getting rid of it.

So does anybody have any experience in dealing with "service VEHICLE soon" warnings?

The system could be reacting to a multitude of things non engine or trans related.

Anything from a exterior bulb or dash bulb being out to a blown fuse or braking system issue.

Check your fuses first and then your exterior lamps since that’s easy.

Okay, I just went out and checked the lights and sure enough the driver's side front marker light is out. Is that serious enough to warrant that annoying chime that accompanies the warning? I mean seriously, if the bcm is smart enough to tell you something is amiss, shouldn't it also be able to reveal the source that triggered the warning?

I thought about the fuse but everything works as it should, and there are no blown bulbs on the dash, nor are there any check-engine or other warning icons illuminated. They all come on when I first start the car but they immediately go out once started. Brakes seem normal and stops just fine.

I looked over some factory service information for you on that Service vehicle light. As crazy as it sounds, the exterior lights are among the most common items to trigger that light. Second most common is the high mounted stop light. Make sure all those are functional and report back. Hope that's all it is.

Well look at it this way.
Had that not been a marker light but a turn signal light you could have been pulled over and ticketed by a over zealous cop and that ticket could run you at least 50 bucks with todays insane surcharges town tack on.

What you just found out here was free!
